I wanted to cut my fenders, so I did. I followed the body lines and when I cut the flare piece out, I realized it would look cool if I just reused it.

To fill this space, just bend up a piece of metal and weld it in there. A piece of roof from a red Geo Metro works pretty good. But you can use whatever.

This is how it looks on the inside.

I got this idea from Fender Cutting 101 http://www.therangerstation.com/Magazine/summer2008/fendercutting101.htm

The left side doesn't look the greatest because there was an incident involving a dear...but I'm sure it will end up looking pretty good when it's all done.

Obviously it's not done yet, I still need to do some grinding, bondo work, and paint, but I like it so far. You get to keep your stock body lines, fit bigger tires (working on that part), and it makes your fenders nice and sturdy. Rather than just having a thin piece of sheet metal that flops around in the wind.

i love the idea, i always hate when fenders get cut and the person who did it leaves it unfinished. this way unless you really look you cant really tell they've been trimmed. genius..

That is freaking awsome!!! I hope you don't mind, but I might steal that one day.

good idea, i cant wait to see how it turns out

I don't mind at all, go ahead and do it. I'm just glad people are liking my idea, I think It's cool that I thought of something that might not have been done before. I'll post more pics as it progresses. I'm going to the the same thing on the back when I get time.

Dude you have the dirtiest garage floor I have ever seen.....
I would have a seisure just walking around in there....

Fender looks good tho...haha

Great idea! :icon_thumby:

I've got another good idea, pick up your Christmas lights. :icon_rofl:

at least he has a garage! i go a 6x8 shed. and 2ft of snow!

i like the idea too! i need to figure out what i wanna do for the rear of my truck. got prerunner fenders in the front. so i gotta find something that fits for the back.

can't wait to see a finished pic of your project!

Ok so the fender project is going on hold for a little while. I kinda tipped over today...

After all that work, I smashed both fenders. Definitely going to chop the top now.

CHOP TOP FTW!
lol

..and swap out the rear driveshaft. it's gonna break! lol.

you have a build thread? if not start one.. to document the rebuild process!

Oh man I totally broke it already, but I found that one on craigslist for 20 bucks so I figured it was a good cheap fix for the time being. What do you recommend I put in? Do I have to make a custom drive shaft or is there something that will swap easily?

Well it's been a few years since I posted anything here so I thought I would put up a picture. Finally got some bigger tires and chopped the top. This is actually from 2013, but it looks the same now.
