I have know idea why yet, but my 2007 F-150 5.4L auto 4x4 whines when under accelleration. You start hearing it around 40 mph. If you let off of the gas it goes away and comes back when accellerating. It goes up with speed. It's not very loud and sounds like it's in the area of the tranny.

I've got 30,000 miles on it. I'll have to take it to the dealer to see what they say.

I think i have a similar issue. When my ranger is going I hear this weird whistling noise coming from the front area. I took it to the mechanic awhile ago and he said it was nothing, just a sound from the truck. So life went on and the sound went away (or I blocked it out). but it backs now I guess. I'd be interested in what they tell you

did you check to see if it was supercharged? no im J/k i just had to say it i know it was dumb. my ranger does it as well (i know yours is auto) but if im in fifth gear and i accelerated between 40 and 60 there is a slight whine, my 68 stang does as well, my mech told me that it was something about the torque converter idk tho, i dont know much about trannys thats why i pay other people to work on them haha

a friend had an 06 f150 with the 4.6 and auto and his wined from day 1. to us it sounded like it was the t case

My F-250 whined when I accelerated sometimes.... From then on out, I made Heather ride in the backseat! The whine was still there, just not as loud.

That's the same thing I was thinking...

A whine at 40-up is often rear diff gears. Whines at steady speed or under light-to-moderate accel, changes pitch or stops when you let off.

Probely gear whine from the rear end.

It just sounds like its coming from the trans because the noise transfers through the drive shaft.

My 83 F150 used to do it bad, the lower the gear, the more the whine, the 4.30's in the dually do it horribly. The 3.55's in my F150 do a little but the 3.45's in the ranger dont and the 3.73's in the colorado theres a hint of it.

I wouldnt worry.

later,
Dustin

I seem to remember my Dad's old van always had a whine when moving. It sounded more like the tranny to me. But it had over 260K on it when he passed away and we sold it. It never once had any driveline issues.
