This weekend i was driving around and went over some train tracks and my exhaust finally let loose just before the Muffler. Now it had been getting louder as of recent and i knew there was a hole just before the muffler.

So...

My question is, Who has had different mufflers on their 2.9 and what sounded best? I have heard go with a glasspack. I loved the sound of flowmasters on my Mustang's V8 but i know THERE IS NO WAY i could get that sound on a 2.9v6. I dont want it to sound like those obnoxious hondas, if thats the case im putting a (stock) quiet muffler on it. I've looked around youtube, but its real hard to tell what sounds better / worse over a set of computer speakers.

Also...

Who has ran it out just before the rear tire? Good idea? No?

so, who has had what? and where?

Thanks!

When I got my 87 the exhaust was gone from the converter back so to save money I got a stock replacement pipe (from conv to muffler) at Advance and 2" glasspack 30 inches long and used a turn down. I can hear it fine but it has a deeper sound and it's not annoying and it doesn't sound "blatty", it sounds good for a V-6.

I have gone from the stock muffler, a Cherry Bomb with the stock pipe, a Magnaflow with dual 3" tips going out the back, and now I have a Flowmaster with a turn down in front of the axle tube. The Flowmaster does NOT sound like an import, It does have a loud deep moaning tone while moving up the gears but quiets down quite a bit on the freeway. The Magnaflow sounded pretty good as well, just not as loud and deep as the Flowmaster. And I was not impressed with the Cherry Bomb. I am sticking with the Flowmaster!

Dave: I love the flowmaster tone, myself. What series muffler did you go with?

RusterRanger: i had no idea part stores (autozone advanced) carry the converter to muffler pipe...

Over the years, I have heard a lot of comments.

The one that has usually stuck out the most is the Flowmaster Delta 40 series. It's loud, but not necessarily obnoxious. Just run the single out of the back; you don't need to dual it out. The mufflers get better airflow that way.

I just did stock exhaust. All new muffler on. 220 all together. I don't know if that's ALOT or not but I don't think it is.

I want a flowmaster 40 series but, if it's louder then I like I'll hate it so I stay stock.

haha i have a resignator from an 99 subi outback and a stock pipe i was just just screwing around cuz i had the same issue as u and need to drive it while i made my choice and it sounds pretty good its loud but not raspy and give it a good grumble

Gary I am using the Flowmaster Super 40 Two Chamber Muffler with 2 1/2" offset inlet and outlet. You can use the center inlet, I thought there wouldn't be enough space under the bed but there is plenty.
