My driveshaft is broken, right?

My drive shaft isn't attached at the rubber section after the carrier bearing, if I line it up and twist it it goes back together and spins (kind of like dislocating a shoulder and putting it back) but it comes right back apart as soon as the angle changes.

What the hell is in that rubber section?

If it's no good I'll keep an eye out and get a 1998+ driveshaft.

It's the top type, 1997 and older.

the carrier bearign part . is that what your talking about , if so , jsut replace the carier bearing and it will be in line ,

if it is the rest , you could have sheared the teeth of the drive shaft i have done that also .. i picked mine up at the local junkyard ofr 20 bucks ?

The Center Carrier Bearing structure is actually a sort of a normal bearing with a Bonded Hard Rubber ring around it that allows for horizontal movement of the half-round yoke that attaches to a coulping shaft with a nut. Remove the shaft and fix the problem. It isn't much fun, but from what you state, it needs to be done.

You can go one piece aluminum or one peice steel. The aluminum one is much larger in diameter.

Either the slip joint is worn out or just pulled apart. If the truck is lifted, it is likely pulled apart. The rubber boot is just for keeping foreign objects (dirt, rocks) out of the spline.

The best bet is to get a one piece driveshaft (steel is best) of the correct length for the amount of lift (if any) on your truck.

Driveshafts unhooked from the axle right now, I don't even have leaf springs under my truck at the moment.

I should probably replace it either way, the one piece is the better shaft.

My truck is going to be lifted about 5" in the rear, should I just swap in a driveshaft from another 2wd X cab ranger, or will the lift effect it too much?

Shouldnt, just get a one peice steel one from an extendedcab and you should be good. My rear got lifted ^ inches and it didnt effect my driveshaft or ujoint angles to much.
