So the other morning on my way to work I was taking my usual route. I was traveling 45mph out of no where I hit a pot hole that should be a national landmark. This sum buck was huge anyway My lower ball joint on the the right side fractured and was making a terrible noise, I pulled over and didn't notice anything at first, so I continued. got to work a little late and we were having a meeting.

An hour later I went out and started my truck smoked a cig while it warmed up, got in to head out and turned the wheel and the noise that followed made my ears bleed.

So I had my boss follow me to my friends shop I gave him the keys and told him to fix it.

He called me at lunch and let me know that I fractured a ball joint.
upper ball joints; 112.00 X 2
lower ball joints; 25.00 x 2
alignment; 70.00
labor; free (he's like a brother)

I didnt know this was possible.... Has this ever happened before?

oh well, I guess it's just money.

Yup. I've seen it happen a couple times. Its less common for all 4 to go out at once, but not unheard of.

if you can find a way to prove the pothole did it, make the town/city pay for it

although its probably too much effort for a few hundred bucks

thats what dave said but I dont think it would work because I didnt have to be recovered or have at least a police report. my old man is a smoky here in town he said it would be a pain to prove.
sh*t happens!

Let me figure this out...Taxes are used to pay to have roads built. Taxes pay for having them repaired. So you want tax dollars pay for your broken truck because you didnt notice a hole that was large enough to be classified as a national landmark?

well clearly the taxes didnt pay to have the road fixed like it should of. I just said it, i probably wouldnt do it either. it would be way more trouble than its worth.

On a side note, they are really really bad a fixing pot hole around here. The just kinda toss some loose asphalt into the hole and back the truck over it a few times and drive away. The hole almost always breaks open within a week

They're like that here too....if they can even be bothered to fix them. It seems like the road crews here are content to just leave the potholes how they are until the road gets so bad that they can bring traffic to a crawl every day while they take a year or two repaving it.

I did the same thing in my 1999 mustang

I'll let you figure it out... no I don't want the city to pay for it. It just came up while shooting the breeze. Have you read this thread?

A lot of times that is a temp fix until spring rolls around and they can do a more permanent repair.

That's a good deal. Looks like, in addition to not charging labor (except for the alignment) he also did not upcharge you on the parts.

Vito

Yeah Napa were the only ones with them in stock. I called them and had them delivered. He's kinda funny that way I had to get him the truck and the parts then he would fix it. I do some work for him from time to time, so I guess it evens out.

oh and he doesnt have an alignment rig we... he took it to another buddies tire shop down the street.
