Hey, I just figured I would post my little project here.

I am about to buy a decent little setup for my truck, let me know your opinions on the gear.

Kicker 12" shallow mount subwoofer in sealed enclosure

Hifonics 400watt 2channel amp

Pioneer 4 way 6x8 for the front doors

Pioneer head unit

Pioneer tweeters

As you can see, I'm kind of loyal to Pioneer. I have been using their headunits for years, and they are by far my favorite. I know they don't make the best speakers out there, but they are always a good bang-for-the-buck buy.

As far as the shallow mount Kicker is concerned, I want good bass in my truck. This is the only option I can see that I have. I eventually might port my bed and cab together, and install some subwoofers in the bed with a tonnau cover, but until then I want good, deep bass.

I might go to the local car audio shop here and test fit some subwoofer boxes. If I can somehow fit a normal depth subwoofer behind my passenger seat I would rather do that since non-shallow mount subwoofers would have more excursion therefore louder and deeper bass.

Any audiophiles got some advice or some input on this?

Hey Barton,

I have a 93 reg cab Ranger. i also am loyal to Pioneer. Had great luck with them. Out set ups is kinda the same. I have a pioneer 4900 ib head unit with ipod control, 2 10 inch Kicker Shallow Mounts in a sealed enclosure behind my seats. I have a 400w alpine class d amp pushing them. i have very good base. Enough that if i keep it turned up a lot my rear view mirror bracket will become loose. And i also have 4 4 way 6x8 pioneer speakers. The only thing i dont have is the pioneer tweets but I would love to have some. All in all I love my system. Sounds great on the high's and lows.

not true

but Jl wo and w1 have the same 5 inchish mounting depth, and so do eclipse cheep model.

a JL w-1 would be pretty nice, I'm sure it's just slightly out of my price range.

As for the links ... It's onlinecarstereo.com .. nothing malicious. I'll recheck them in just a second.

EDIT: The links work fine for me man. Your antivirus software or something may be recognizing it as malicious but it's not.

So you think the shallow subs hit just as hard?

oh yea the shallow subs hit very hard. They don't hit as hard as my old system in my neon. ( 2 12's) thats like comparing apples to oranges though....

they hit very had for a little reg cab ranger. highly recommended.

shallow subs can hit just as hard, yes but you need to have everything set up right per that sub

I got it all setup. It cost me a little more than what I originally wanted, and it's not quite as good.

I got a DEH 5100UB headunit, Kenwood 2channel 600watt RMS@4ohm mono amp, and a Sony Xplod 10 sub *puke*

I had to turn the amp 75% down lol, it's a beast. The system sounds good especially for a Sony 10inch sub. I'm actually quite pleased with it, but would have rather had the kicker.

I ended up spending more on the Headunit and amplifier, then when it came down to the sub I had to just use what I had laying around the house. Oh well, next time I'll take my time and get the parts I really want.

I'll take a video sometime of it all.
