Background: I have a 99 ranger with a 3.0 5 speed manual 4x4. it has a 3 inch body lift and about 2 and 1/2 inch suspension lift. 33x12.50r15it has/had 3.73 gears. in the process of swaping in 4.10's from an auto ranger. (33's took all my towing power.) I'm having problems with the brakes going haywire. i only have the back in. and i'm hoping whenever i put the front on and the different sensor it will fix it but..

MY question is about a v8. I have read things on here about people putting explorer v8s in them. But no one has used a standard trans. i want to keep it manual. So i would use a f-150 trans but how would the mess with the computer since the explorer comp wont a an auto to control. and any problems with emissions after the swap? any help is appricaited and how long would i be looking at for the swap? and cost? using original transfer case also

Mine is not as new as yours, but running into similar problems...First, you tcase, you will not be able to use...it will not bolt up to the V8 transmission, you could find an adapter plate, but you might run into the splines matching up(where I am at)...you need a 4405 tcase from the explorer. Also, its possible you can use the explorer harness, two ways I see you could try, use a comp from an f150 with manual, use the explorer comp, leave the shift module plugged up in the harness(the module thats bolted to your shift lever on the trans) so you can start your truck-using this method will most likely set off your check engine light and throw codes...not a guarantee, but a point in direction to try...

Going with the manual and xfer case has been discussed but you'd have to go back thru the posts to March to find a lot. The auto functions can be programed out, SCT comes to mind. What are you worried about emissions, meeting state or local rules?

using the original transfer case wouldnt be problem. advance adapter has them. or i can just make one at work when we arent busy. i just dont want to have to jam the f-150 tcase in there and modify the drive shafts. But back to the tranny thing. yeah it would work but i dont want the check engine light on. how would i get it repragrammed? and the f-150 computer would take a lot of rewiring.

Lots and lots of wiring if not staying with the Explorer computer/wiring. Check the SCT web site for a dealer near you, give them a call or stop in. Just have to re-program the computer. Someone else just posted about the trans and transfer case question. Modifing the drive shafts is no big deal or usually expensive.

what is SCT? where is the other thread at? link maybe? and i would like to keep my electronic shift transfercase too. how hard would it be to rewire for electronic shift f150 tcase?
