My 97 2.5 SFA Ranger

hey I live sooooooo clsoe to you that speedy shop is right down the street from me.lol.

I'm the kid who drive the clean 92' with cobra wheels

My dad worked at the speedy at one time. I still hangout up there.

I've never seen your truck, looks nice though.

Sweet truck, man. Very unique build, in my opinion. I don't see that many Longbed 4bangers with as much work done as yours. It's quite refreshing, haha.

The parts are cheap and everything is easy to work on. :icon_thumby:

Now.. If I could find a 7ft bed that isn't rotted out or smashed for under 1000$. :annoyed:

out of curiosity, whats the distance between your spring hangers, center to center, widthwise? what is the frame height at your tranny cross member?

I will have to check. It's been a while.

I replaced the brakes today on the front, next is new seals and wheel cylinders on the rear.

I had a problem finding the correct rotors. I was told the axle is out of a 94, but the 94 rotors hit the lower balljoint, I ended up using rotors for an 88, but I have the 94 style calipers, not sure wtf is up with that.
Maybe the guy before me put wheel bearings from an 88 on the truck, idk.

The passenger side caliper piston cracked AGAIN and I had to replace it.
I also figured out what is making the jingling noise. Its the stupid "bolt retainer" for the axle nut. :annoyed:

Now I just need to go out and put the anti rattle clips on the calipers.

The clips go on like this, I tried a few different ways and I couldn't figure it out.

Any updates on your swap? Clean looking swap and looks basic to do for the most part!

This thread is going to help me a lot, I just found a YJ d30 with 4.56 gears to match my 8.8

Just looking in to it right now, but what parts do I need altogether? My friends have a parts truck, so I can grab the transfer case and front driveshaft out of that (it's an 87 I think)

Will the transfer case bolt right up to my M5OD? Any fab work done for that?

Nice truck btw, glad I'm not the only crazy person who wanted to do a SAS 4x4 conversion on a 4 cyl long bed.

Is your trans a 2wd? If so you will need to swap to a 4wd trans, and the t-case will bolt up no problem then.

The front driveshaft will work, but might need lengthened or shortened.

I used this thread to when I did mine. I put my shackles in the back though. It took me about ten hours total sart to finish

Are shackles better in the front or back?

And yeah, did a lot more research today, I have a 2wd tranny so I need to find a 4x4 trans for the 2.3. The parts truck has a 4x4 5 speed, but it's a 2.9 so it won't work with my 2.3. I could swap the output shafts from theirs into mine, but that involves rebuilding the tranny. And that's kind of a lot of work for just the 2.3.

So I'm either going to keep looking for a 2.3 4x4 M5OD, or look into a 4.0 swap so I can use their trans. Or maybe even a 5.0 if I'm gonna bother with a swap.

Better ride in the back more flex in the front from what I understand.
Also if you serious into off roading like rocks and stuff like that I would do coils. But for basic as it gets springs is very simple and cheaper. I have a build thread on mine if you wanted to see how I did mine
