My 91 Ranger the stRanger

Well I hit the trails early this morning and had a good time with ScottyJ as usual, we ran several 2s in the morning. After lunch and Scotty left I wanted to go try my new stuff out on some of the 3s and of course ten minutes into the first trail on the hill climb (pretty gnarly I will say) I stalled, lost brakes and rammed my rear tire backwards into a tree bending my leaf spring and forcing me to call it quits for the day. I am most upset is I didn't even get to try the rock trails I was hoping for and had to leave super early. LAME! Any way here is a couple pics and all the video I got.

Nice carnage dude. Truck looks awesome. We had a parts ranger that was rear ended and the spring was bent just like that.

Yeah it was pretty scary going backwards with no brake control. Im just glad there wasn't any rigs behind me. Debating if I just want to buy a hole lift spring pack or try and make another bastard pack

Sucks!

My buddy did the same thing on his Ranger yesterday too, slid backwards down a hill on the snow, hit a tree and bent his spring just like that! Still drove it home.

What would you think about bending it back? weaken it too bad?

yep I still made the hour drive home with no problems whatsoever. Yeah bending it back I think will weaken to much, I really want to replace it.

hmmm so I was thinking: broken leaf spring, is my truck screaming chevy spring swap?

edit: Decided there really isn't much of benefit for doing it, I am leaning towards picking up some jamesduff 3'' lift springs but they are a nice chunk of change...

Man, that happened to me on Imogene Pass in the San Juans. It's not that I didn't have any brakes per se, but even in 4w Low it wanted to surge backwards. Luckily I was in a position where I could move lateral and let everything settle down.

Wow, sorry I missed it *snicker*... seriously though, I'm glad you didn't get hurt. What trail did this happen on? You had mentioned wanting to try "The Ravine".

Btw, I'll quote someone from the Explorer Forum:

There are two types of people that offroad, those that have damaged their vehicles, and those that are going to damage their vehicles...welcome to group 1

This was on Buckhorn North which is an offshoot of Brandons run. The trail is rated a 3, but the only portion worthy of a 3 is the hill climb I was attempting. The rest of the trail is no harder than the things were doing on snake, the hill climb even has a bypass.

And I am still disappointed my leaf spring kept me from attempting ravine lol.

Remember the Duff 3" springs are probably for use with the stock blocks which we deleted but on the other hand I guess your shackles will make up for it. Is that an explorer main leaf? I swear my explorer main leafs are thicker.

I kept the mains ranger leafs. And yeah with just shackles I am like .5'' lower than stock, so with the 3'' springs I will prolly sit around 2 1/4'' lift, and I can always a leaf if I want.

If you don't go with the Duffs, put explorer main leafs in there, I just went out and looked at mine and they are definitely thicker.

I'm thinking about it but pulling springs from the j yard is pain, then taking apart my old packs and remaking them. I am feeling super lazy about it.

Well I got a price from duff on 3'' lift leaf springs and they want $568 for them shipped to me and I live one state away :shok:! Deaver 2 1/2'' springs are only $620 before shipping. IDK if I am willing to pony up for the duff springs it seems like an excessive amount for them or is it just me?

I was kinda hoping to replace my springs with some new ones and not making another bastard pack but damn! Any opinions on this will be greatly appreciated.
