My 87 Ranger I will be restoring soon I want to keep track of my progress and add information as I find it.

My parking brake is not functioning correctly. I really think it has to do with this not being set up correctly. Anybody got a picture of the correct way?

I am starting to see light at the end of the tunnel. Temps been dropping all day. It is so n Sealer/Primer. Got some small things to get the cab wrapped up but it is getting there.
IMG_3619.jpeg

I did get the back of the cab finished.

IMG_3635.jpeg

I removed old masking. It can hold dirt and dust.
IMG_3636.jpeg

Here is first coat of base.
IMG_3637.jpeg

I think this is a first coat of clear.

I see one run. I only run it in the clear coat. I put it on heavy to wet sand later. First time painting in 4 years so not disappointed but wish I could have got perfect. To do a black truck I would have to paint and body work 15 times. Black shows any imperfections. White hides faults. This being some metallic, I was worried about Tiger Striping. Still cab is done and looks far better. I would say I got 40 hours in this in the past 5 days.

You're making great progress. (y)

Hang in there; it'll be like a new truck when you're done.

Thanks RobbieD… It is going to speed up here, got a few things freed up and want to get this looking as new as possible. Thanks SenorNoob.. I got some time into it lately. I’m feeling it in my muscles.

That color looks very much like my 86. Your work is much better tho. Mine was rattle can...

Thanks SenorNoob.. It is not as perfect as it looks. I am glad it is in far better shape then it was. This was the first time painting and bodywork in about 5 years. I am disappointed that it did not come out 100% but it did feel great getting it looking better and I have more free time to work on it now. Things will be moving a lot faster on it.

Today I had my aluminum rims installed with the tires that have been on it. Friday I get two rear tires to match the front as rear tires are a different brand. These look like donuts on it with the same tire to me. I did spend a lot of time in the past trying to make rims shine. May look into getting them powder coated at a later date. I did get 10 new lug nuts as that was all Orielly had on hand.

I eventually want to go to 31 inch tires but with my front coil springs sagging, I did not think they would clear. I will eventually replace my coil springs. I think I got those on my parts list. 2 wheels down, 2 to go. A step closer to where I want the truck at.

I got my new rear tires on with new lug nuts. Nice to have them matching all the way around now.

It is in the shop. Going to get bed painted this weekend. I got tail lights, front blinker lenses, coil springs and 2 cans of Eastwood rust encapsulater on order to make frame and suspension look new again and to hide over spray.

I had a dent to pull this morning. I hit the shop at 8 hoping to paint today. Now it is just getting it ready for paint tomorrow.
IMG_3658.jpeg

Passenger side is now ready for final sanding and sealer.
IMG_3659.jpeg

Tailgate just needed the bottom side finished from where I had better access. It nearly ready for final sanding and sealer. Further along then pic shows.

The 87 bed donated its gas door. I’m am hoping to get the 87 started this fall.

I really wanted to paint the inside if bed. I think I will finish at a later time and put bed liner in it. I will kill the rust.
IMG_3663.jpeg

Got the front cleaned and nearly ready for paint. Gave the underneath if the bed a good bath. A lot of mud still came out from tail lights and bed panels.

IMG_3665.jpeg

I had to remove some of the factory striping.
IMG_3666.jpeg

It always leaves a mess and a pain to get off but it is done.

I do have it in sealer now. I took pictures in wrong format. Lettering shop air out and a few touch ups the on to paint. Molly always helping get things done Shop noises do not bother her
