My 2.8 is on her last legs :(

I want it to run lower than it's running now, it usually never ran above 160-180 that's why I'm gonna put the lower temp thermo on it. it will open up at a lower temp and now has a bigger radiator to cool it so it will keep it cooler than having it get up to 192 before it opens then having to cool it back down. I'm putting on tomorrow either way. We'll see.

Well. got the new 160 thermostat in today, I went ahead and put a flexible tranny cooler line from the rad to the cooler, cause the metal line was bent to crap. Any way got back together, flushed the crap out of it by leaving the top hose off and plugging the top rad opening, and I flused clean water through it for about 10 minutes with the heater on full blast. Drained that out and pumped out a gallon and the put in antifreeze and burped it for about 30 minutes and Wallah:D

Running right were I wanted it! :yahoo:Took it out on a road test and winded up giving a guy a lift to Tazewell from Halls about 40 miles round trip and no problems, never ran over mid ways. So that's done now I have to figure out why it loosing power like it's got a bad fuel filter, but I just put one on it when I got it in October, could it be bad already? It just looses power like no fuel, when I push the pedal down and it kicks into overdrive I get the power back. No knocking or pinging. just loss of power. It started right before it started overheating any Ideas:icon_confused:

nice that u got the temp working right!
check the fuel filter and lines.

Thanks, I just replaced the fuel filter, you thinks it's bad already?

Do you have a vacuum guage to adjust the idle air needles turn them both out 1 1/2 turns get the engine hot then unplug the idle motor and turn them out till you get the highest rpm or vacuum between 17 to 21 inches if you have a guage then count the turns in then back out to make sure they are within 1/2 turn then plug the motor back in. It will be different running at a cooler temp. To adjust the curb idle turn the engine on then off the plunger on the motor will be fully extended. Unplug the idle motor and start the engine and block the wheels with the e-brake on and put it in drive and adjust the position of the motor to set the idle up around 800 to 900 rpm whatever you like lock it down then plug the motor back in it should idle down to normal about 650 rpm. Then you can adjust the choke high idle cam after the engine fully cools off push the pedal about half way down and start it make sure the cam is on the V notch and adjust the idle around 1200 rpm or wherever you feel comfortable and make sure the choke thermostat is getting a pulsing voltage and opens fully when the engine gets warm.

I did, but it broke, I got to take it back to Harbor Freight and get a new one. I'll try that tomorrow. Thanks

The 2.8 is not a power house and you have the bigger tires is your speedo correct if you want more power you can change the differentials and there are different gears for the speedometer cable to keep johnny law off your back.

No, speedo bounces a lot, it's like a gps it's in the general vicinity of how fast I'm goin! LOL

My wife has grounded for a while, in the past month I've spent $400.00 on vehicle crap, so I gotta tighten the purse strings a bit! LOL But I will try a different diff.... Tanks!

Oh yea you can adjust the kickdown for the tranny just turn the screw on the lever that goes to the tranny from the throttle lever and the screw on the base of the carb that is the idle speed for a normal older carb is the anti deisel screw get it to idle normal and adjust the screw to where it almost touches the throttle lever that keeps the throttle from closing to far when you let off the gas fast.

try oiling the cable on the speedo bouncing is usually a dry or binding cable disconnect it on both end add some oil from the speedo side and let it run down or give it a blast of air to force it down until it spins free or easier if you get enough in up top it will work its way down naturally I really dont think you have a bad fuel line put about 4 ounces of acetone in the tank with a few fillups that will dissolve any of the crap or varnish in the fuel system I would be more a suspect of the fuel pump try the cheap stuff first.

If the carb dont dial in correct flush the fuel system and rebuild the carb like I said cheap first.

Yeah, I just put a new fuel pump and filter on it in October.

My speedo was bouncing too - I pulled the cable loose on both ends, squirted WD-40 through it and lubed it up with some light, white lithium grease. After a couple of hundred miles of driving - no more bouncing.
