My 02 rangers power dome hood seems heavyier than my 93 f-150s hood ?

When it comes to the Ranger, they raided the parts bin a lot.
My Nephew works for Ford. His job is to purchase parts and keep the supply chain stocked. I don't know if he could change a dome light bulb, but he did a pretty good job of keeping the assembly lines open.

I mentioned this to him once. He just laughed as if to say, "If you only knew."

The Ranger has always been popular, but some years it was wildly popular. I'm sure there were times when they had to really scramble to keep up.

From what I can see through the paint shine, your hood looks the hood on my 2011. It's all steel.

Like I said in my last post. The 2004 facelift also got a new hood design. It looks limilar to the '01-'03 powerdome, but it has a lower profile and the raised portion in the front to match the grill.

The '04+ hoods were steel. The '98-'03 "flat" hoods were aluminum. The '01-'03 powerdome hoods were composite.

Any actual cowl induction hoods were aftermarket. The powerdome does give the appearance of a cowl induction hood, but it wasn't. I suppose someone could have opened up the back edge to make one, I haven't pulled the insulation off my hood to see what the structure looks like.

They did that a lot. That's why it never made sense to me that they never put the 5.0 in the Ranger. It was a parts bin install and their competitors offered a V8 in the class. Heck the SVT team even did it a couple of times, even making a mini lightning, but it never made it further than that.
