Hey, i was just wondering if i could use all my stuff from my 96 explorer (heads upper and lower, throttle body and all my sensors and computer) on a early 90s mustang 306?
thanks

All the 302 blocks are the same so i would'nt see why you could'nt.

What truck is this going into? With a late model, that would be a great combonation. A short/long block really doesn't care where it's used. Just be careful like you said to match the computer, wiring and all the sensors. I guess one other thing I would ask is how built up is the 306? You do run into limits using the Explorer parts. The intakes(ported) run out about at 350-380 HP along with the TB. What heads and cam you plan on using?

There's nothing different about the short block, other than the camshaft, in that regard the Explorer cam is only one step away from the Mustang cam. And that only on the intake side. The basic shortblock aside fom the cam was unchanged from the 93-95 Mustang and E & F series trucks to the 96-2001 Explorer/Mountaineer.

if i am not mistaken the early 5.0 explorers actually had gt40 heads NOT gt40P heads, so what you would end up with would basically be a 93 cobra motor...nice! :icon_thumby:

Here is the motor i am looking into:
ITS A 302BORED .030 OVER (306) FORGED PISTONS VALVE RELEIFS FOR TFS AND INLINE VALVE HEADS PISTONS ARE FROM DSS .030 OVER AROUND 1000 MILES ON SHORT BLOCK,NEW OIL PUMP,BEARINGS,OIL PUMP SHAFT,FORD RACING TIMING CHAIN ,F-303 CAM,UNDER DRIVE PULLEYS,ROMAC HARMONIC BALANCER,ENERGY SUSPENSION MOTOR MOUNTS,

The guy wants 800 for it. it needs heads. i have the gt40 heads off my explorer motor. Is there something better i could or should run? what about the rest of the setup. My goals are like 320 to the rear wheels.
thanks

Not to sure that cam will work well with the Explorer computer without retarding the timing 2-4 deg. That's what is reccommended when using the E-303 cam. Has to do with the tight LSA. Seems that the explorer has trouble with less than 114 degs. Think you are going to have to use the Explorer balancer/pulley. Think it's a one piece unit and that's where you get your crank signal from. To get 320 rwhp, think you are going to have to step up to something like the AFR 165 heads.
Here's right out of the Ford catalog.
