Alright guys so im sure you all know i've got a carbed 302 and c-6 in my ranger. It sounds nice and is pretty bulletproof i guess, but i'm not happy. the engine is tired and a c6 can turn even a 460 in to a dog. not to mention not having overdrive is just brutal on nj highways. so i was planning on a t5 swap. sounds good- free up alot of power, overdrive, much more fun being that it's stick, etc. but now that my motors starting to burn oil, and the cost of a flywheel and other crap is just gonna add up, i got to thinking, why dont i just go and get a 89-93? 5.0 foxbody engine and t5 trans all together? i could go efi, and other than exhaust and clutch stuff, everything is ready for it to drop in. I even saved the factory (89 2.9) efi wiring (:yahoo: thank god).

anyone know what kind of a job this is gonna be? will i need the ENTIRE mustang harness or just the computer and engine side of things?

alrighty looked in to things a little more and decided to say screw the FI idea. its gonna be a major pain in the ass and really isnt worth it to me.

so it looks like a common dual plane intake and 600cfm vac secondary holley will be making themselves at home on this motor... any idea what kind of power to expect compared to factory FI?

Have you done a compression/leakdown on the engine check the vacuum pressure. It could be it just needs some TCL. Check the timing chain and how long since the last tuneup including wires. Just because it is running weak dont mean it is shot. Give it a good diagnostic before you condemn it. It could be just valve guide seals if you have good compression you can change the seals without pulling the heads with air pressure and a sprong compressor I did it on my 2.8. To check the timing chain pull the distributor cap off and turn the crank back and fourth and see how far it turns before moving the rotor. The 302 5.0l is all the motor that your truck needs as far as O/D maybe all you need is different gears in the rear axle once you bring that engine to life again.

225hp at the flywheel was the factory rating for 87-93 5.0HO. A dual plane carb setup will not hinder performance at all. In fact it may help a little in the down low. Plenty more to be had... if you want it. Click on my screen name/public profile for a quick pic of my DD. And yes, this setup will fit into a ranger... I did one for a customer in the spring.
