ok, I have an 83 ranger with a 2.3L 4 cyl. And I want a muffler that is deep but that won't make me go def if you know what I mean...I had a flowmaster on there that came off of my bro's 72 camaro and it was too loud....so does anyone know what kind of muffler will sound deep but that's not crazy loud? it has a carburetor if that helps....so any help would be great....thanks

well there's that but I don't know how loud it is in real life...I would rather talk to someone who has what I'm looking for

could just toss it on there and let er buck see how it sounds

Ya but that would hurt me money wise lol...I don't want to just go from muffler to muffler just trying them out cause I also don't have tons of time on my hands

i had a magnaflow on my 83 2.3L that exited right before the rear passenger tire. It was 2.5" from the manifold back with a hi flow cat and i thought it sounded damn good.....it cost me about 400 ish though, i had it done. I would recommend magnaflow.

Since you had the 40 on there. If it was 2 loud then you possibly had the original 40. What size piping is on your Ranger? The size will have a big affect on the way it sounds.

If you want a good quiet, but still have a good sound for a 2.3. I suggest the 50 series deltaflow. Check with some junkyards to locate some under trucks and suv's. I bought alot of 40 series last year alone and I got them for 25 bucks each. In my trips to the junkyard I have seen a few of good 50 series and I could have got them for the same price if I needed one, but it never did.

Finally thanks...So your saying that the pipe would make a difference? Well I had my 1 3/4" pipe going to the flowmaster and then it just had a kick down that was about 2 1/2"....so now that I have a full exhaust system, do you think that it would be better sounding now?
