Muffler / cat question

A few weeks ago there was a post where someone had removed the muffler and was running only the cat. I'm wondering how much difference there was in the exhaust sound. Right now I'm running a Flowmaster with the cat and the exit pipe on the Flowmaster is leaking for the second time so I'm thinking if there's not too much difference between the sound without the Flowmaster, I may just take it off, replace the pipe and run the cat only. Ideas, experience?
Thanks
Danny

what engine ya running? and you wont pass a inspection like that. if its on a 4 banger, i def wouldnt do it. will sound like crap imo

mine doesnt have a muffler its just got a pipe ran out in front of the right rear wheel, its pretty loud at low rpms cruising it sounds like a tractor, it makes alot of ricers turn there heads and look at me like wtf, and i just laugh, i only did it because all the piping from the cat back rotted off not long after i got it and just havent put a muffler back on it.

Stock 2.3 (4-banger) for '94. Thanks for the info. Also considering a straight through glass pack since I found out that the flowmaster is only supposed to last about 4 years. I had a glass pack on a '83 courier and it sounded okay.

Don't want my Ranger to sound like a tractor. Thanks
Danny
