I'm looking for something better than the stock molded "mudflaps" that really are just there for appearance.
What options are out there for real flaps?
And how are they mounted compared to the molded flaps?

My 97 Ranger Flairside had the flat non-molded factory mud flaps. They were warped so I used them as a template and cut new mud flaps out of a flexible hard black plastic that's smooth on one side and pebble grain on the other. I was thinking about using aftermarket rubber mud flaps that have the Ford emblem on them, you can cut them any size you want or leave them full size and just mount them to the factory brackets. I went with the stock size and just plain black because my Ranger is a 2wd and I didn't want the mud flaps to stand out. If you don't want to use the factory brackets, most aftermarket mud flaps are made to screw to the wheel well lip.

My 99 Mazda has non molded flaps on it from the factory. There is a bracket that bolts on the truck and then the flap bolts to that.

The 96 had some on the front that were Ford logo and had a neat little bracket. Only problem I found with them is the front quarter panel also has the back end of the inner fender wrapped under and secured by in the same area.

This is a dirt and moisture trap that resulted in the bottom end of the front quarter panels getting rusty and almost rotted off. So if you are going to put a mud flap in that area you might consider cutting that inner fender back a bit to allow it to drain better.

There is a small hole at the bottom of it for drainage, but mine was full of dirt and plugged so the salty water just sat there in contact with the metal...

I should also say that the entire driver side of the floor panels was also eaten away with rust...so much that I could not use the cab without rebuilding it.

I took my molded ones off my 1999 when i put on the extend a fenders. I had to get mud flap brackets from a 93-97 and then just cut to size some black ones from pepboyz.

You can always to the free hanging rubber ones.

That looks awesome, but I don't have the lift for that.

You don't have to have it like that, but the general idea, you can have it inside the back of your fender and have one in a smaller size.

Amazon, ebay, the internet, or just buy some rubber and cut it to size. You can buy ones with mounts or make your own.

The rubber mud flaps seem to work better also, I have plastic factory ones and they don't have the length so when I went mudding with friends they got sprayed with mud when they were behind me. Heh
