My credo
The fun begins where the pavement ends
So the 31's on my truck are starting to get a little bit bald and I'm lloking at replacing them. Basically my family has had good luck with BFGoodrich tires. I am looking at getting either a set of Mud Terrain T/A's or All-Terrain T/A's. I am going to find out the price difference between them but here's what I've been told.

Mud Terrains
-More Chattery on the road
-Better offroad performance

All Terains
-Better onroad performance
-Better in the snow

I am looking at getting 4 tires, 31x10.50x15. Would the price difference ber very big? And my buddy said the All-terrains would be better in the snow as we get a lot here, is that even true?

Thanks,
-Mike

Well I guess it really depends on how much you offroad. If you do a considerable amount, then look into the Mud Terrains. However, if you do just some offroading, then I'd get the All Terrains. My buddy has BFG A/T's on his XJ, and they actually perform fairly decent offroad. Not too terribly great in DEEP mud, but they didn't do too bad. And yeah, A/T's would definitely be better onroad, and in snow.

Thanks man, I was leaning towards the All-Terrains, they don't have as much of the offroad 'look' like the muds but they seem like pretty good tires. How do they and the Muds perform in heavy rain though?

for rain and ice, more rubber on the road is better. AT's will put more actual rubber on the road because the tread is not as open as the MT's. i do a lot of driving on rain, ice and snow here where i live and for my dd, AT's are where it's at for me. and they really do rather well on the trails as well. just my $.02 :icon_thumby:

so i used to have the bfg mt tires and i never felt that i had alignment issues. the tires where never balanced or anything. smooth on the freeway.

a week before i moved from san diego i bought a new set of bfg ats. i had them balanced and the whole 9 since i was driving cross country. well i noticed a difference. i was getting the death wobbleall the way. id hit a bump anywhere from 30 to 50 mph and my truck would shack like hell. i knew it was an alignment issue but i never experienced any problems with the muds.

i guess the ats just have such better contact on the road that they dont give you any leeway. its something to consider if you have a sas or a lift. or you could just get an alignment. lol

The AT's do well in in the rain. but you still have to rember its a multi purpose truck tire, and not a "street" tire so they will break lose alot easier than a street only type fo tire.they also last for quite along time.

the old KM muds bfg's,were ok in the rain, but you knew you were driving a mud tire. they would break lose semi easy if you tried stuffing them in a corner, and hit the breaks hard etc when it was wet out. not scat OMG Im going to die, but you could cause pucker prints in the seats if you "forgot' you were on muds.

Ive read the newer muds, are better in the rain. As they have a softer compound. and a diffrent tread patttern, with more sipes.

Cant tell you much about snow, as most the time if im driving in snow, its for a few hours of tail happy fun.

and yes there is a price diffrnce between muds and ATs, muds always for the most part cost more. on the avg of about 30 dollars more per tire

I've decided I'm going to get the A/T's. My westlakes still have some life in them so I'm just going to sit tight till the BFGoodrich's go on sale.
