i am looking to purchase new mud terrain tires and i am not sure what type to buy. the tire size i would be getting is 265/75 16 any recommendations would be appreciated:icon_confused:

Well there are many brands out there. How much life are you expecting to get out of the tires and what noise you can bear along with your price range will make a big impact on what tires you get. BFG seem to get good ratings but I dont have them so I cant give you anything in particular. For a greater sample of opinions, go here

This is the size you want of Mud tires. compare a few and look at the comments people leave about them.

Another option is retread tires. Some guys swear by them, others hate them. click here for some retreads!

Hope this helps!

How much mud and off-road time is the truck going to see vs how much road time?

If it's mostly used on the road, you might be better off with a really aggressive AT tire instead of a mud tire, since mud tires tend to wear out relatively quickly when run on the street all the time.

I shod my Ranger with Sport King ATs the last time around and while not a mud tire, they did pretty darn good under any condition... and surprised me with how well they went under muddy conditions. They only lasted around 35-40k miles, but that's more than most mud tires and I think a pretty good number for an AT tire.

If its mainly mud use or you have money to burn, get some Super Swampers... pretty much any design other than the thornbirds, aka thornturd.
SSRs are reported to last long but you better have deep pockets. LTBs are cheap, limited selection, bias ply, but they really sling the mud and hold up decent. Boggers are serious mud tires....even when nearly bald. TSLs work pretty good too. I've heard mixed reports on the other designs.

i got good year MT/R's on my 85'. they do great in mud snow ect, but have a ass ton of road noise. there seem to wear ok. i've put about 10k on mine and there still plenty good.

if you dont want to spend unnecessary amount of money on gas: Nitto Mud-Grapplers are a tough good looking chunky offroad tire but wont be spending as much money as buying the best BFG.

Better Mileage: Nitto Terra-Grappler A/T

Procomp

I'm running Procomp Xtreme Mud Terrains and love them - they're a little noisey but I've heard much worse. They clear out quickly and I haven't had them clog yet. I haven't gotten into any really deep mud either. IMHO, an excellent choice for both ON and OFF road duty. Every Spring, Procomp usually has a "Buy three, get one free" promotion - should be coming up soon! I run 33" LT285/75R-16's but I'm not sure they'd fit without some lift! Good luck with your decision...

well i work for Kal Tire and we have excellent relations with Nokian so i got them for a very good deal (only paid $69/tire plus 4 bags of balancing beads) they retail for about $160/ tire from Kal Tire.(there are only Kal Tires in Canada, mostly Alberta and British Columbia)

can you hook me up and i will just come across the boards and get them and come back over to the us

Cooper Discoverer STT greatest M/T ever made! I never ever had a traction issue with these suckers, only ground clearance issues. The nasty sidewalls pulled right out of deep ruts. And they were really good in the winter too. Absolute best snow wheelin tire. not to mention they are really badass looking!
