Anyone ever have their brake caliper pistons rust up and keep the brakes stuck on til the pads burn up in smoke?

I had this happen on my wrangler after a year straight of off-roading on wet trails and ever since then I have been taking the dry trails with my ranger or driving around the mud puddles.

Thinking about the spring and the melting snow making muddy trails got me thinking about this :icon_confused:
Does anyone know how bad the muddy water ruins brakes?
Does anyone have any solutions?
Has anyone had their brakes ruined by mud? like I said above

I just assume avoid all mud but sometimes the trails don't let ya get around the puddles..
whatcha think?

i've had the front disc brake calibers stick because of the sliding pin rusting.
Mines a 2000 and I don't know if the newer rangers have that same sliding pin with the rubber boot on the end. Many people recommend using high temp brake grease on that pin to keep it from sticking but that is a big mistake. The proper grease for that pin and boot is high temp dielectric grease. Brake grease will eat the rubber boot and destroy it. The dielectric grease will not.

as long as you maintain everything, you should be good. the only time ive had a caliper go bad wasnt because of mud. just keep stuff clean/greased.

hmm I guess I will grease them in the spring with dielectric grease and I'll still try to avoid the mud but at least I'll be prepared for it.. thanks dudes
