This was something that I noticed while browsing through the Ford sales lot today. I found some 2010 Ford Ranger std cab, 6ft box, 2.3L, 5-spd manual that have a MPG index of 19city/24highway. I thought the MPG should be 22city/27highway. Maybe this is a new MPG result from using fuel with E10 (10% ethonal in unleaded fuels)? Could not find any 4.0L Ranger to see what their mileage would be. I wonder how this truely reflect to actually owners results?

E10 crap and the more realistic MPG ratings set a few years ago. Plus 4 wheel disc and traction control. All add weight. Might even be different gearing.

I just checked the fuelecomeny.gov ratings. It gives the 19/24 mpg rating to the Ranger with a 2.3L, Auto. Now I wonder if the dealer put the wrong window sticker up.

my'04 only averages 21-22 with all my fire gear in the back and that was on Cruz doing 65 on the interstate dropping off that banner last Fri

Yeah, they all went down about 2 years ago when the EPA updated the economy test standards to reflect current real-life driving situations, not 1980s real-life driving situations.

My boss has a 07 reg cab short bed xl 2.3l auto with a/c being the only other option and he gets 26-28 mpg. Of course he drives 95% hwy and goes speed limit.

My 2010 4.0L 2wd according to the sheet in front of me says 20city/29hwy mi/gal.. I find a 70ish dollar fill I can squeeze almost 500kms, with about 180 of those highway, and the rest city, fairly hard driving.

Mpg

Guys, in 2008 mpg testing was changed.(Honda CRV,wifes car) Same car in 07 rated 30mpg was rated 27 mpg in 08.

Have had my new 2010 Ranger XLT 2.3/M5 for about a month and put over 1000mi on it. Very first tank was a lot of highway/some stop and go,got right at 31 mpg(210mi/6.8gal). Since then, mostly suburb driving has netted an avg of 24-25 mpg with the a/c cranking. Talking with guys on other sites, you can expect about 2-3 mpg less with an auto trans version. Also, less for 4x4, and less when large tires and wheels are added.

It only startled me when I saw the MPG less than 20mpg on a basic of basic Ranger. I was beginning to think Ford might have changed something or changed the MPG ratings from the last time in 2008. But after reading up on it more and hearing the replys, I think now that the dealership just put on the wrong window sticker and was meant for one with an automatic.

2008 Extended cab, 2wd, 3.0L, 5 spd, 4:10 gears, fibreglass capper.
Been keeping track since April when I bought it.
MPG has been from 19.8 to 23.4 (imp), depending on the driving.
Likely more city driving that highway. Never go over 110km/h on the highway. (that happens with age, plus with the low gears, it's revving high enough at 110km/h for my taste)

Average L/100KM 12.8
Average MPG 22.0 (imp)
KM Traveled 3371.8
$ Spent $433.52
$/km $0.13

Since it's got 4:10's, I find that the highway mileage isn't any better than the city mileage.

i drive my truck like a grandma and 99% of the time do the speedlimit. i can pull 21 in th city and 26 on the highway. this is with a 4.0 xlt 2wd extended cab. no e-fan, just street tires and a tonneau cover.

You guys have a different gallon than we do don't you?

20mpg seems to be about the max for a stock SOHC 4.0 here. Some get a little more, some get a little less.
