My credo
Friend of Bill W.
I've got short legs and when I position the seat to steering wheel spacing that is comfortable, I have to stretch to reach the gas pedal. The brake pedal placement is just fine but not the accelerator. This is a 4WD, four door, 2002 Ranger XLT, automatic transmission.

Anyone else experience this and have a good solution?

To make things easy, I would probably just screw a 2x2 to the gas pedal, maybe put some tread tape on the outside and call it done, the bracket on the firewall and the throttle cable would be complicated to move.

+1 ^^^^

I had to do that for my grandmothers cars, a block of wood on the gas pedal, but she still drove S L O W, lol

You could hit wrecking yards and find gas pedals to put over existing to extend it out farther

OR...............I added one of these in my 1955 Willys overland wagon(almost a woody): https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Barefoot-Gas-Pedal-Cover,1189.html

TOO COOL

The best solution is probably to add about six inches of length to your legs. Three inches between your knee and ankle, and three inches between your hip and knee. That's what I would do if I were in your shoes.

If you don't want to pursue lengthening your legs, I have another (serious) thought.

I usually wear shoes with a fairly thick sole, and my seat is adjusted accordingly. If I wear shoes with a thinner sole, I have to reach farther. So the solution would be shoes with a thicker sole.

Waitaminit.... Does anybody know if the power adjustable pedals from an '02 Taurus will mount to a Ranger? I think they were also offered in the F-150 and Superduty. @adsm08 can you check?

Alot of vehicles had adjustable pedals.

Yep, my friends 2005 f150 has them. Did not know that the Taurus had them as well.
My wife's old Taurus wagon had them. We never moved them though.

Or you could cut a block of wood and attach it with a couple of hose clamps.

Just wear these and be done with it.

Least helpful response of the millennium award goes to you for this response.

Yeah, Rusty, I know that a lot of vehicles had power adjustable pedals. I know the Taurus and F-150 did. I suspect the Edge did, too. What I don't know is whether they can be retrofitted into a Ranger, and THAT is what I'm asking about.

I don't understand, where is it going?

Yes, they can be retrofitted. It may require cutting, welding, modifying, cursing, walking away, throwing things, etc.

They used to sell clamp on pedal extenders years ago. We had a customer about 4'8" who would have us swap them to her new car when she traded, and usually remount the seat farther forward. That was before crash standards and air bags. Whatever you make to raise the pedal, make sure it's solid and will stay put.

Add spending more money and this is probably the most accurate answer you can give for this problem.
