I have a 1984 ranger that i am planing on putting a 4.0 that i got for free in to this truck. my Question is will it fit or will i have to put a 5 speed in to do this engine swap? need info:icon_confused:

IF it has a 2.8 bellhousing it'll bolt up, but the '84 4sp trans has the small diameter synchros and "short" 1st gear relative to other T-K transmissions...

So while it'll bolt up it's going to have a very short life followed by a sudden violent end.

Unless you wanna do it just to see how badly you can fubar the trans
I'd look for something else.

well the 4 banger has seen it's better days an i want something that when i push the pedal to the floor i might can run 85 +, so what about a five speed?:icon_idea:

You want a Mazda M5OD-R1 behind the 4.0 if you want a 5 speed.

well one thing im going to need for the 4.0 is a wireing diagram, the explorer im pulling the engine from has a mess load of wires and in need to find out which ones i need, where can i get a diagram? repair manual maybe?

Oh another question?? My ranger has a 2.0, so will the 4.0 still bolt to the tranny?
