OK title explains it all.... I have a 95 ranger XLT 4x4 4.0 V6 4spd manual w/OD and I'm not sure what year Mountaineer it is because I haven't laid eyes on it, but it has the 302 and it is the full engine with wiring harness and ECU, so I guess my question is will that 302 mate with my 4 Speed transmission?

No, not without an expensive adapter. Even then not worth the trouble. V8 has too much power for stock Ranger trans.

And that isn't a four speed transmission. It's a five speed.

Four speed over drive is four forward gears, the last of which having a ration of higher than 1:1.

A five speed trans has five forward gears. Last time I checked OD is a forward gear (unless we are talking about something really bad-ass).

Well it seemed like a 4 speed with OD cause the 5th gear doesn't seem to make a big difference in ratio, so I assumed it was a 4 speed w/OD.... Thanks for the info.....

You'll want a 5 speed from an f150 from 1990 to 1996 , it will have the correct bellhousing bolt pattern for the 302, both v8s and the inline 6 have the same bolt pattern so a trans from any of them will work.
