Hmmm from your screen name I woulda thought you rode a Kona :icon_twisted:

My screen name is from when I was huge into mountain biking (downhill and freeride) My first real bike was my Norco Sasquatch hardtail (got it in 2001)

I still do ride a bit but not near as much as I used to, I still have my 2002 Norco VPS Fluid, its still in awesome shape and gets the job done for me.

I have an 09 Giant Boulder SE. Don't do any actual mtn biking, but I've been look for some trails around where I live. Nor do I have much time other than a trip around the bike trail by my house. I bought my wife a comfort bike this year, Globe Carmel low entry.

ranger_mclaren, how did you use a jack stand to hold your bike? Can you work on the bike and it not fall over?

check out bikeforums.net for any biking advice or too look for local ppl to ride with.

I have a Trek 7300, a GREAT BIKE.

another useful website for finding trails is traillink.com. you have to register to get maps, but its free. Anybody know of some mtn bike trails around Heath, OH? I recently heard of Star Hill, but I have no clue where it is and google search doesn't help.

I've always wanted to get into it...we actually have some really nice trails at a local park that my brother in law goes on...just could never really justify getting the type of bike I know I'd want.

you can get an entry level mtn bike for around $350 new.....unless you go to walmart, uhhhg. My Giant Boulder SE is entry level that I bought for $350. Hindsight I wish I would have want up a step or 2, but probably don't need it.

BTW, why does it always seems like I have to INSTANTLY REPLACE the seat when I buy a cycle?

The stock seats are just uncomfortable!!

Well, I've been riding for years now. I started out with a 97 Norco Kokanee. Back in those days, fully rigid, V-brakes, and 21 gears were the norm.

Then in 2003 I bought my Brodie Bruzza. North Shore hardtail (so extra burly), 2x9 gearing (2 in the front, nine in back), DJ3 on the front end.

Ended up replacing all the truvativ parts with Race Face Evolve DH parts, V60 pedals, Sun MTX Rims laced to XT hubs, installed a chainguide up front, which left me with only 9 gears in the back.

Then I got bored with my Brodie. So last week i bought this:

Well, not exactly that, but its similar. That bike has 29" wheels. Mine only has 26" wheels. And its black. But same concept. Fully rigid bike, singlespeed. So much fun.

i just got into mountain biking last year, the guys that i work with are pretty into it so i decided to go along with them on an outing. the first trail we did was 9 miles long and was super crazy...... and i was hooked! ive got a late 80s diamond back ascent and a mid 90s specialized hard rock. the ascent has front shocks and a seat post with a shock in it and the hard rock is a rigid.
