Looking to purchase a class c motorhome. The one I am looking at is a Coachmen model on an E-350 van chassis. It has the 460 (7.5) gas engine with the overdrive transmission.
Does anyone here own a motorhome similar to this one or maybe a class A with this engine/trans combination?
Hard to find info on the good and bad or what to look for.

Thanks

I've worked on them for quite a while a one point. In all reality it just a stripped chassis like you would find under a box truck. It will have the E4OD(4r100) for a transmission. Pretty decent transmission. As far as the 460...they are pretty much the same as any other 460 just a pain to work on because there is no room. Ask anyone who has a 460 powered motorhome and drives it a good bit, the exhaust manifolds warp and leak. There were some people who had them done once a year. That is one thing to check for sure. The only solution I have seen to that is to replace the manifolds with headers and locking bolts. Another draw back for a do it yourself guy is none of them can be scanned with a regular code scanner. You need to go to a dealer and have them use the chassis builder's scanner. The motorhome part of the vehicle itself they are all junk in my opinion some just have nicer paint...from the base model to the million dollar model. They are leak here or there at some point, most have rubber for a roof that needs attention, the awnings can be a pain. Just check it over for leaks, make sure none of holding tanks leak, furnace works, fridge works and so on. They all need work so dont be suprised if it need attention. Just try to catch it before you buy so you have something to haggle on.

I would look at getting a diesel if I were you. I don't really have experience with motorhomes, but diesel is going to get a lot better gas mileage than the gasser. Just my 2 cents.

in a class C only 1 in 20 came with a diesel. I would never buy another Class C. the Overhead on all of them leak.

in the class C chassis ...... that was the easiest tune up on a 460 I have ever done, Make sure it has heat shields on both exhaust manifolds.

transmission held up just fine.

Look for a class A, you will be much happier ..... Lot of 5.9L cummins powered Class As with 6spd allisons forsale cheap.
