motor swap from 2x4 - 4x4

i have an 88 ranger 4x4 single cab regular box with the head jasket gone, and i have an 88 ranger 2x4 ext cab with a good motor and tranny can i swap them right out?

Transmissions are different from 2wd to 4wd. Transfer case will not bolt up. If the engines are the same though you can just put your old trans on the new engine and bolt it all in.

thanks for the info my tranny is still good and the motors should be the same there both 2.9L's and 88's i think i will replace the clutch while i have it seperated.

Probly be best. Do the slave cylinder at the same time. Ford OEM one is your best bet. It might cost a bit but its worth the extra $$$ in the long run.
