Putting 5.0 in my 99 ranger two wheel drive and trying to find best motor mounts. One says explorer 5.0 mounts fit but do you have to have the plate also? Some say mustang mounts will these work? some say make your own. what do you guys think? Thanks joey!

Explorer 5.0 has wider frame rails, so those mounts won't be a direct fit. Mustang mounts can be made to work, but will probably rewire drilling or welding once the motor is positioned.

On a 99, a set of 4.0L mounts with adapter plates would probably be the best fit. The mounts will bolt directly to the existing frame and plates will properly position the motor in the engine bay. Probably closest to bolt together that you'll find.

Plans for plates are floating around the forum somewhere, and they may even be someone around here that sells them if you can't do the cutting and welding yourself.

SVTRanger (?) sells them for the later Rangers with the coil suspension - cost about $60, bolt right in using the 4.0 mounts.
