What's the easiest/cheapest swap for a 2.3/m5od '97 ranger? A friend tells me a 5.0 is a weekend job even a retarded monkey could do, but i'd want to keep EFI. Opinions?:icon_welder:

It is if you have a 97 Explorer 5.0 donor to swap everything over from. if not, it's going to take quite a while. A 4.0 swap is easier due to the wider availability of donor vehicles.

Go pickup a efi 302.. there are tons of manufacturers making swap components.. ie adapter plates, headers, brackets.

just my .02

The 4.0's go in easy too..

:threadjacked: If a person were to take the efi out of an Explorer are there any that have a manual that can be swapped too? If not and they're all autos, can I take the auto off and add a manual without a computer problem of not sensing the auto there anymore? :icon_confused:

I'm not really worried about physically getting the 5.0 engine in there since i don't have/don't want A/C, PS, etc. I'm mostly interested in how hard it is to do the wiring since a single stored code will keep me from getting inspected in NY

What's involved with the 4.0? Mounts/computer/harness from the donor?...

You could always go with a carb'd 302... easy to wire up... you only have like three or four wires...

But I'm not sure if they'll let you go from a vehicle that originally had EFI to Carb...

you hit the nail on the head.. If you can find a complete donor..

But the 4.0's arent necessarily the highest mpg achievers i think a 302 would be a better bang for the buck and deliver some pretty damn good mileage.

It just figures all the writeups are for carbed engines or pre obdii trucks ;)
Oh well, i guess as long as i have wiring diagrams and pinouts for both ends, i should be fine.
