What's the easiest/cheapest swap for a 2.3/m5od '97 ranger? A friend tells me a 5.0 is a weekend job even a retarded monkey could do, but i'd want to keep EFI. Opinions?

Go pickup a efi 302.. there are tons of manufacturers making swap components.. ie adapter plates, headers, brackets.
just my .02
The 4.0's go in easy too..
I'm not really worried about physically getting the 5.0 engine in there since i don't have/don't want A/C, PS, etc. I'm mostly interested in how hard it is to do the wiring since a single stored code will keep me from getting inspected in NY
What's involved with the 4.0? Mounts/computer/harness from the donor?...
you hit the nail on the head.. If you can find a complete donor..
But the 4.0's arent necessarily the highest mpg achievers i think a 302 would be a better bang for the buck and deliver some pretty damn good mileage.
