The cheapest way is completely free and simple, drop any extra weight you can. For every 10 pounds dropped about 1 horsepower is gained. Then it's all about how much you want to spend. Fairly cheap low budget upgrades like high performance plugs/wires, cat-back exhaust, cold air intake and maybe a throttle body spacer are usually simple. Shop around for some good deals and you can get all that for around $500. I'm not sure about other motors but spending the extra few bucks for Royal Purple full synthetic in my 4.0 added a little extra kick as well. Good luck with the upgrades.

Weight affects HP ?
Wow, so If I did a chop top I'd gain about 30HP

There is not much you can do other than headers to get a lil more power and it wont be cheap. Power, reliability and cheap, you can only have 2 of 3.

i went to autozone and adapted the "rice burner" air intake stuff to my truck. noticable power increase. AS LONG AS ITS COLD. i am going to snorkle out above the hood. that cost about 100.00.
