I would like to know if there are cheap easy ways to increase the HP on my 92 4.0 ranger. Any suggestions?

computer chip Is best bag for your buck

No, not really.
It has a cold air intake and tuned exhaust from the factory, those are the reasonably cheap upgrades people used to do.

And NO on "chips", they don't work.
You can pay to have computer tuned but you really need to change the cam or stroke the engine to make that worthwhile.

You can switch to an electric cooling fan for the rad, belt driven fan uses horse power, so does alternator, BUT............alternator doesn't use as much powering an electric fan once in awhile, vs HP used powering the belt fan almost all the time.
Good read here: http://www.therangerstation.com/Magazine/Summer2003/ElectricFanInstall.htm

Lighten the load, leave spare tire at home, carry a can of flat repair or get AAA card.
