Has anyone modified the air box in their vehicles to increase air flow? My 94 keeps acting like its not getting enough air. At about 3500rpm, it just falls flat and I lose power. The factory design is really restrictive, having a very small inlet into the box.
Does anyone make a kit that doesn't cost $200?

Did you try cleaning the air filter? Sounds like it could be clogged to me

swap in a box and intake from a newer RVB like a 96 ranger or explorer thats what i did and i could immediately feel the diffence check out what i did hear

I put in a brand new filter and it acts just like the old one. I don't know if just putting in a K&N filter will make a huge difference or not. It just doesn't look like a lot of air can get into the box from that little inlet tube underneath.
I might take an old filter, get all the paper off and wrap guaze around the metal screen. At least that'll tell me if it's an air problem. I did pull off the tube from the box to the throttle body and it made a big difference. It revved all the way to the redline, but didn't want to idle. The computer didn't like me bypassing the MAF.

the computer generally likes to know how much air is going into the engine that way it knows how much fuel to pump in. as far as the k&n unless your gonna get a whole new set up dont bother with just the filter. i got one and couldn't tell the difference. when i took out the stock system and put in one from a newer truck the difference was big and i was using a paper filter. if your running a fairly stock engine a high flow filter will not make a difference the 96 explorer intake is a cold air box and its almost a straight shot from the intake to the throttle body.:icon_thumby:
