Actually he didn't spend much money on it. Well not near as much as it looks. Traded for must of the stuff and did the labor himself. At least thats what he said when he was on here last time we where talking about it. Apparently he was making it into a prerunner now if I remember right.
I know this is an old post, but I just came across it while messing around during lunch. That's my Ranger. It doesn't look anything like that now though. Just a bit on why I did build it the way I did: At the time, I wanted a full blown show vehicle. I didn't care about functionality. I just wanted a crazy Ranger that had never been built before. I have a long background in lowered vehicles. I could have body dropped and 'bagged it on 20's, but then it would have been just another 'bagged Ranger in a long line of 'bagged Rangers at any of the shows across the country that I go to. This was my very first lifted truck. I didn't care about going mudding or rock crawling or anything like that. I just wanted a big ass truck that looked cool and that I could drive down the street. I built EXACTLY what I wanted to build at the time. I built the frame, the suspension, the axles, the engine, almost everything on the truck. I traded some stuff for the body work and the paint. I seriously only have about $8,000 cash into that truck, not including the purchase of the truck brand new off the lot. The only things stock on the truck are the windows, bumpers, and the mirrors. Everything else has been built of changed. The suspesion is on airbags, with 16" of travel up and down. Fully aired up, the suspension is a 39" lift above stock. Originally I had 46" tires on it, but then I bumped up to 52" tires. When I built it, I did live in So. Cal. I could drive down the 210 or the 605 or whatever freeway at 70 MPH no problem. But when I got the 52's, freeway driving was out of the question. It bounced too much. It was fine on city streets though. I know my truck was worthless for anything but driving on the road and going to shows. But you have to understand that that is exactly what I wanted at the time. I had the absolute biggest Ranger in the country, probably the world, went to shows across the country, got the cover of Mini Truckin Magazine, got a 6 page feature in Truck Trends ( a Japanese magazine), and it was in the SEMA show in Off Road Magazine's booth. How many people put all that work into thier truck and don't get that kind of recognition? My truck was that way for almost 3 years, and I decided I wanted something different. It's torn down and well on it's way to being a 22" of suspension travel, V8, prerunner. Something more usefull, but just as cool. There are SO many people that talk trash on my truck for being worthless or whatever. I know it was. Who cares? That's what I wanted, so I built it. How many people can say they built thier truck EXACTLY the way they wanted it? Anyway, 'nuff said. Take it easy.
im not trashing on your truck man im jus saying it not my style but i give u props for doing what you always wanted.. on the bright side whats your plans for the truck now that you got torn apart, is it still gonna be a lifted truck?Tony, if I replied to every posting about my truck, it would never end. I replied to this one out of pure amusement. I was bored during lunch and came across it. Killed some time replying to it. If you look at the last time I was on this site, it was quite some time ago.
Irish, I was only getting between 4 and 5 MPG. The engine was a mildly built Chevy 350, 350 tranny, and 5.13 gears. Definately not a gas saver.
There are always going to be the haters out there that have to trash someone else's truck, whether it's because they don't like the style, or because they are jealous and have to tear down something that they can't have. Honestly, it used to really bother me. Not so much anymore. I'm starting to find a lot of what people say to be amusing. I built the truck for attention, and here it is 3 years later, with the truck not even together anymore, and good or bad, people are still talking about it. I reply from time to time just to give people an idea of why I built it, and then maybe it will make them understand that they didn't truely know my motivation for building it, that they were incorrect, and maybe they'll understand that they should maybe find out the reasons why instead of assuming.
