Monster Ranger

only thing on the truck was done right was he wrapped his 20's in some 52inch Michelin military tires..........

Actually he didn't spend much money on it. Well not near as much as it looks. Traded for must of the stuff and did the labor himself. At least thats what he said when he was on here last time we where talking about it. Apparently he was making it into a prerunner now if I remember right.

seeing as that truck is from oklahoma i think its kinda weird that he is turning it into a prerunner. dont think there are too many places to play with a prerunner in oklahoma.

I know this is an old post, but I just came across it while messing around during lunch. That's my Ranger. It doesn't look anything like that now though. Just a bit on why I did build it the way I did: At the time, I wanted a full blown show vehicle. I didn't care about functionality. I just wanted a crazy Ranger that had never been built before. I have a long background in lowered vehicles. I could have body dropped and 'bagged it on 20's, but then it would have been just another 'bagged Ranger in a long line of 'bagged Rangers at any of the shows across the country that I go to. This was my very first lifted truck. I didn't care about going mudding or rock crawling or anything like that. I just wanted a big ass truck that looked cool and that I could drive down the street. I built EXACTLY what I wanted to build at the time. I built the frame, the suspension, the axles, the engine, almost everything on the truck. I traded some stuff for the body work and the paint. I seriously only have about $8,000 cash into that truck, not including the purchase of the truck brand new off the lot. The only things stock on the truck are the windows, bumpers, and the mirrors. Everything else has been built of changed. The suspesion is on airbags, with 16" of travel up and down. Fully aired up, the suspension is a 39" lift above stock. Originally I had 46" tires on it, but then I bumped up to 52" tires. When I built it, I did live in So. Cal. I could drive down the 210 or the 605 or whatever freeway at 70 MPH no problem. But when I got the 52's, freeway driving was out of the question. It bounced too much. It was fine on city streets though. I know my truck was worthless for anything but driving on the road and going to shows. But you have to understand that that is exactly what I wanted at the time. I had the absolute biggest Ranger in the country, probably the world, went to shows across the country, got the cover of Mini Truckin Magazine, got a 6 page feature in Truck Trends ( a Japanese magazine), and it was in the SEMA show in Off Road Magazine's booth. How many people put all that work into thier truck and don't get that kind of recognition? My truck was that way for almost 3 years, and I decided I wanted something different. It's torn down and well on it's way to being a 22" of suspension travel, V8, prerunner. Something more usefull, but just as cool. There are SO many people that talk trash on my truck for being worthless or whatever. I know it was. Who cares? That's what I wanted, so I built it. How many people can say they built thier truck EXACTLY the way they wanted it? Anyway, 'nuff said. Take it easy.

listen man, i defended you the first time around. i like you truck, it serves the purpose you built it for.

but you have to understand, google-ing "monster ranger" and posting up every time your truck is mentioned is coming off as an insecurity. i didn't even bother to read all that, i'm sure its similar to last time.

this is time you could be spending in a much more worthwhile fashion. go out and enjoy your truck, don't worry about what a few people on the internet think.

if anything, instead of "i did it this way because blah blah blah......" you should be posting up new pics. you built your truck for attention, plain and simple. when you draw attention, its inevitable to get both good and bad. enjoy the positive feedback, let the rest go.

Its a descent looking 2wd showtruck I guess thats what he wanted I mean you cant blame the guy for his craftsmanship just his taste is kinda odd but theres a niche out there for this like any other oddity.

i think it would be an awesome truck if he took off some travel, maybe around 10" and put on some tractor tires and ran it through some mud bogs, but either way i wanna give him props for doing exactly what he wanted done, that what he likes so all the power to him

its not my style but to each his own i can appreciate the effort he put into it

Tony, if I replied to every posting about my truck, it would never end. I replied to this one out of pure amusement. I was bored during lunch and came across it. Killed some time replying to it. If you look at the last time I was on this site, it was quite some time ago.

Irish, I was only getting between 4 and 5 MPG. The engine was a mildly built Chevy 350, 350 tranny, and 5.13 gears. Definately not a gas saver.

There are always going to be the haters out there that have to trash someone else's truck, whether it's because they don't like the style, or because they are jealous and have to tear down something that they can't have. Honestly, it used to really bother me. Not so much anymore. I'm starting to find a lot of what people say to be amusing. I built the truck for attention, and here it is 3 years later, with the truck not even together anymore, and good or bad, people are still talking about it. I reply from time to time just to give people an idea of why I built it, and then maybe it will make them understand that they didn't truely know my motivation for building it, that they were incorrect, and maybe they'll understand that they should maybe find out the reasons why instead of assuming.

I didn't mean to say you were bagging on my truck, I was talking in general.

I took the Chevy V8 out (I can hear the hooray's from the Ford guys!) and I have a 302 from a '94 Mustang that's going into it. I'm in the middle of narrowing the frame so that I can build the new long travel suspension. If everyhing goes well, it will have 22" of travel front and rear. It will be fully caged and have 6" flared fenders and bedsides. I have some suspension seats and 5 point harnesses going into it. I have the new wheels and 35" tires for it now too. I've been doing some side projects to help fund the rebuild, but should get back to the Ranger soon. I've been building a full exo-cage for Toyota that's being used for rock crawling, and I stretched a Banshee 8" and put a '02 Kawasaki ZX9 engine into it for a guy. That thing will be stupid fast. 180 MPH streetbike engine in a quad?! I'd rather have something that can be riden all around instead of drag racing, but it's pretty cool that he wants it. It has a 6" stretched swingarm, but we're going to have to get a 12" stretch for it.

well you should make a build thread here and post pics of the rangers progress id like to see how she ends up
