first off, my sub is a elemental designs 9kv.2(8"sub). nearly identical to the e3.8 which replaced it. specs can be found on their website.

the pink line is the plot line for how my sub is setup now. its in a sealed box, aproximately .42 cubic feet.

the green line is the plot line, if i were to switch it up and go ported. elemental designs suggests a box of .7 cubic feet tuned to 35hz.

this is just to give you an idea of how much of a difference it would make. at 40hz, theres almost a 6db gain. in theory, a 3db would be like doubling your amps power.

the red line at 100hz represents where id cross it over at. the red line at 30hz is where id set the subsonic filter at. so you can see a nice gain in output from 30hz all the way to 60hz.

That is some handy info as I just bought a e3.8 for my truck:icon_thumby:

youll like it. im only giving it half of the recomended power and it sounds pretty good.

i went with the sealed box only because i dont have the room to go ported. if you go sealed, id recomend .5cf. i was shooting for .35cf with mine, but some bad measurements made it closer to .42cf

Is your truck a regular cab? If so would you mind posting a picture of your box?

Derek

Thanks for posting up the picture. It looks like the newer trucks have more room behind the seats than my truck does. I might have to go with the minimum amount of air space for the driver as I need the seats to go all the way back almost.

Derek

dont quote me on this but i think the 98+ have 3 more inches behind hte seats. since i measure wrong, i have to have the passenger seat go up 1 click. i want to sut out that whole back panel and lose hte rear speakers. that will give me about another inch of clearance to the back of the cab and another 1.5" of height. then i should be able to go ported no porblem.

I mocked up my box last night but it is too big - need to make it smaller so the seats can go back more.
