Model trains…

There’s a full size train on the other side of the road from the house. I can just about hit the tracks with a rock from the front porch. Unfortunately I don’t get to play with it :icon_rofl:

That's how close mine is, too. Except I don't throw rocks at the tracks. And, no, I don't get to play with it, either. But I get to watch it any time I want.

I sit in the back yard, or on the front steps, or in the den, or in the living room and watch 'em. Where I watch from depends on where I am on the property.
Grew up in house, a couple hundred yards from RRTracks; as a kid I was fascinated by trains & still am to a smaller degree.
But suspect parents gratefully slept better on those quiet nights the LocalSwitchEngine was NOT making a 2am run; though they never complained.

As I mentioned earlier, I'm even closer to the tracks (200 feet). And, there's a crossing a block east of me, and another one three or four blocks west. In the summer when I have windows opened, or when I'm outside, the trains are LOUD. But, once I'm asleep, I don't hear them, AT ALL, even with windows open in the summer.

When I was about 14 years old, my grandfather and I took a trip by train. Ever since, I've had a bit of a love affair with them. I haven't ridden one since, but I've loved watching them.

I used to live very close as well. And i also got used to the trains at night, they didnt wake me either.

I live in a condo for years that had my bedroom window less then 100yrds from the tracks, there was a bridge there too.

could not hold a conversation in the living room while a train was passing, but somehow the sound of the train rolling over the joint on the bridge lulled me to sleep.

The tressle by my parents is above the house so there isn't really a ton of noise.

live under the L train eh. I hear it’s a popular vacation spot.

Train here is pretty noisy if you’re outside but if you’re inside with everything closed, you don’t even notice it. The longer we’ve lived here the less I notice it even outside

It was like that when I lived in Coraopolis, PA. It got to the point that I didn’t notice it unless I was trying to hear the TV or talk on the phone over it.
