94 ranger 3.0 auto.. stalling at idle, but runs ok when the MAF is disconnected? what the heck? I have looked everywhere for a vacuum leak but to no avail.. any suggestions?
clean around the throttle butterfly, fully open the throttle and with a rag wrapped around the end of a screwbriver clean the bore. Is the air filter new and the PCV if it has one. Also look into serviceing the EGR system.
it has new plugs, wires, cap rotor, pcv and fuel filter.. it was running rough this spring so we did a tune up hoping it would help before the snow flies.. it is usually driven 100 miles a day to work and back. it was still stalling after the tuneup so we had a mechanic look at it and he said it was the maf so it has been changed.. it still has the same issue.. its been awhile since I looked into the emission system but if the vacumn at the egr valve is cracked or the valve is bad would it cause this kind of issue?
My only experience with the EGR was that it wouldnt open as needed for emissions. But if the EGR was stuck open , the engine wouldnt run right at idle and tip in. This was on an old V8. The cure was a golf tee stuck in the vacuum line. YMMV
Thanks to this thread I just fixed the idle problem on my 84 B2. Screw inserted into the EGR valve vacuum line and it now runs awesome. Thanks again, this TRS forum is just full of quick simple fixes I'm finding out.
