This is on my race truck and I have some tools - drill press, welders; stick and mig, grinders, but no milling machine. Would like to fix this before my next race Oct 23, and I have a long list of stuff to do.
I installed the used Hurst shifter and it seems to work very well. All the slop is gone and I'm not searching for third gear any more. Unfortunately the splines on the handle have worn away and even when fully tightened the handle will move slightly when shifting - can anyone come up with a quick and easy fix?

I've thought drill another hole and install a roll pin. Or two holes and two roll pins.
Or file out the splines by hand.
Weld tack, top and bottom.
Other suggestions welcome.

Richard

Why is this urgent? Just glue the handle on or pin it like you suggested. You've got three weeks to solve this problem.

While we're waiting for it to be moved, wrap some electrical tape around the splines or some white thread tape in enough layers to keep it firm.

There's been a little confusion, I'm talking about where the shifter handle blade is bolted to the shifter shaft. I'll have to take pics.
Thanks,

Richard
