i talked to a couple of you on here about my german short haired pointer. well as of 10pm last night someone had hit her with their car when i was up at my farm. i have never had anything like this happen before. this was my first personal dog. and i never thought much of when people said their dog died til now.

this is by far the worst thing i have ever been through. i hate talking about my issues/ problems with other people but i feel like it is going to make me feel a little better. i am not looking of sympathy or anything. it is more of i am sharing an enlightenment and a new respect for people that have their dogs die.

she was by far the best dog i have ever had. we had family dogs but this was the first one that was mine.

i guess that title doesnt really fit what i talked about. my mood changed by the time i finished typing this. i guess i am just more mad at myself for not keeping her closer to my side

So sorry about your girl dog, Bro. I hope she did not feel anything and did not suffer. I know what it is like to loose a pet. I have lost so many of them and they are like my kids. I miss all my dogs, cats, birds, hamsters, my monkey 'Boo' and my snakes and my Alligator, 'Alley'. Yes I had a pet alligator for awhile. We moved to Florida in 1970 for Africa (my dad was military) and you were allowed to own a pet gator then until the laws changed (too many people letting their wild animals loose in the woods or lakes). We had pet raccoons as well back then. We had them in a huge three story play house with metal gating to keep them safe and secure. They got their shots and chekups every year like a dog or a cat.

Just remember her for the way you loved her and forthey way she would go placed with you.

Listen, for what it is worth...do not hate yourself for letting her go to the farm. She was happy to go along and she would not want you to blame yourself for her passing.

Rest in peace Shelby!!!!

That sucks dude. I saw my first dog get run over. It was pretty traumatic, especially since he was so young when it happened.

I don't blame the guy that hit him, it was just an accident. The guy was driving down our road, going slower than the speed limit, and the dog took off and come out from behind a row of trees and bushes that separates our yard from the neighbor, and his head and the guy's bumper just kinda got to the same place at the same time.

The driver couldn't have seen him, and he was just as upset about hitting the dog as we were about him getting hit.

Sorry about your loss dude. The first one is always the hardest.

yeah i didnt see it. i didnt even have to pick the dog up off the floor. my buddy came back in my truck and i asked if he had found my dog too. and he just lost it and said she was in the back of the truck. so i guess i am very lucky to have him do that for me so all i had to do was bury her. which is also not fun.

and she was fairly young she was 3 years 4 months exactly lol. just didnt think i would be burying her for another 10 years or so

sorry to hear it man.....dogs are just as much a part of the family as anything.going back a few years,i had a dog that died at the age of 16-natural causes.the point is i got that dog when i was 16,was 32 when she died so she had been with me for half my life.the two i have now are getting up there now too,i think about it a lot.hang in there.

Sorry to hear that man, Its always rough, I've lost a few dogs to natural causes, I don't honestly think it gets any easier when you lose a friend as loyal and great as a dog, but as time passes the easier it gets.

I had to put my 5 year old girl down last year because of horrible seizures and the consequential brain damage they caused. As hard as it is to lose them when you think you have years of companionship left, be glad you didn't have to watch her suffer, deteriorate and ultimately feel her life leave her in a cold office floor, telling yourself you are doing it FOR her and not TO her.

Sorry for your loss. It sucks ass.

Oh man that sucks she was a beauty. I lost my black lab Buster when he was 12 yrs old, still makes me sad but we had some grand adventures together in the wilds of Alaska.

Teaches you one of the most important lessons in life, "letting go", its one of the hardest, and one of the most depressing.

I lost my cat (had him for 6 years, used to jump on my dad to stop him from snoring, would literally PLAY cars with me when younger, and loved swimming) to the Mew Mix cat food that had been contaminated with the rat poisoning a while back. We put him down.

God gave us a "chuck and run" dog though, she was dropped out of a truck and lived in the woods for 1 years, and finally came to us, about a year after we moved here, all that time I thought a wolf was watching us, haha. She is around 3-3/4 years old, and very shy.

I could not imagin losing Thunder Chicken (its her legal name!)

thanks guys. i actually feel a lot better and its hasnt even been 48 hours. i am watching my buddies dog for the weekend. the one she ran off with. they look exactly the same lol but act completely different. makes me miss my dog but at the same time its nice to have a dog around the house for 2 days. keeps me busy and keeps my mind off it.

and it just sucks knowing that i am never going to have a dog that was at perfect as her. she was exactly what i wanted as a dog and was one of the best looking gsp i have ever seen.

Last year I had to put done my dog Dillon that I rescued while I was in the UK. I still miss him terribly and rides with me anywhere I go, his collar is in my truck. He was about 13 yrs young. He bit to little kids and the mail man (supposedly). I miss him terribly. But now I got a little jack russell named Molly. I spoil the crap out of her.

There will be another one. Time heals all wounds unless you get divorced but that is a whole another deck of cards.

When I was a kid I had a stray named Rover, and he was probably the best dog I ever had and some one shot him with a shot gun and he made it home and died in front of me, I will never forget that, and If I had found out who had done, they would have been eating lead! There is no excuse to harm an animal like that. Sorry bro.

agreed. some people dont deserve to have guns if you cant use it right. but i cant be mad at the guy that hit her. it was 10pm and he was on a highway i guess. speed limit was 35 but it used to be 55. so everyone still goes 55. he didnt even see her. obviously looking at the pic you can tell she was hard to see at night.

Me, too Bro. I hate people who do that.
I beat up one guy in front of my dad one day. I was home on leave from Special Ops and my dad and my Irish Setter went to get the mail out front and I heard my dog barking and yelping. I was in the pool and jumped up and ran out front. Some punk that used to drive by my mom and dad's house a lot real fast as crap swerved over at my dad and my dog on purpose and his front bumper hit my dog and bumped her. It did not hurt her but she was mad and frightened as I saw. The punk was yelling at my dad that if he sees them in the street again he will kill them both. The punk did not see me until I pulled him out of the widow of his Charger and I smashed him on top of his 'Glass hood and crushed it in with his body weight. I put my index finger against his throat and told him if I see you drive by the house one more time racing up and down the street I will kill him. I told him that if something happens to my family or the dog or the house I will hunt him down and kill him. My dad has never seen my hurt anybody before or loose my temper as I did. He was freaked by what I did but he told all the neighbours that this guy will never speed up and down the streets anymore. Two weeks later somebody killed the punk at a race he went to (illegal). And you know what? So what??
