My credo
Eagles May soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines!
My son has an 89 bronco 2 with a 2.9. He was pulling some logs out of the woods with it and checked his oil afterwards after doing any hard pulling. (400-600lb logs dragging on ground) There was a line of milky oil on his dip stick. I pulled the oil cap off and there was milky oil substance on the bottom of it.

It wasn’t running very long 10-15 minutes. I got him to park it knowing water in oil isn’t a good mix. Exhaust didn’t smell sweet and engine barely heated up. But there was pressure when I tried to remove radiator.

Sounds like a cracked head correct? Since cooling system was pressurized without it hearing up?

I’m looking for an idea to tell my son. Thank y’all in advance.

That *could* be a cracked head.....

But more then likely just condensation from the motor not getting hot enough to cook it out of the oil.

I wouldnt worry unless you ran it for an hr or so and still had the milk.

If youre still worried rent a pressure tester and test it. But youre probably fine.

Also 10-15min is plenty of time for the coolant to pressurize...but not really long enough to heat the oil good and hot to boil off the condensate.

I’ve got a pressure tester so I’ll hook that up. If it is a cracked head will it hurt the engine to keep running it with antifreeze in oil? I’ll be looking for around 100 psi correct?

Yes coolant will eat main/rod bearings in short order. Then instead of just heads youre in for a full rebuild.

100psi? No. You want to use the PSI rating on the radiator cap. My 87 2.9 is 13lbs so i assume yours is the same.

Im still betting its just condensation though.

im sorry I misunderstood you there. I thought you meant pressure test on cylinders. I’ll definitely need an adapter to test coolant pressure. Thank you for your help.

You can test the cylinders to. If you do a compression check you should be closer to 140-150ish psi.

A 2.9 with coolant in the oil?! This is unheard of!
