I picked up a empty 300cf bottle and im not sure what i should do, i have a MIG welder but no argon, but i also have an oxy/acetylene kit. which one should i go with i mostly deal with stuff between 1/8" and 1/4"

if i choose MIG, how long wold my bottle last at what cfm?
same with oxy/acetlyene?

i want to get as many hours as i can for my money

What I would do is use the mig welder and buy Fluxcore wire instead of gas. That way you do not have to worry about transporting or filling the tanks.:icon_welder:

Also..I'm not sure what you mean about how long it would last. It really depends of the type of welding you plan to do. If you were to cut the gas too short you would have bad quality welds, you know?

well you cant use one bottle for multiple gasses you have to choose one and only one. if you plan to do a lot of welding the fill it with argon and run either a mig machine or tig machine. if your doing a lot of cutting or burning than oxygen acetyline is the way to go.

i have never seen oxygen and acetyline in the same bottle does it come that way i always have to use two different tanks so i can change the amount of each is used to adjust the frame heat

The only reason you would want to compress oxygen and acetylene together in the same tank is if you want to die when it explodes in your face.

i have flux core in my weder right now but i wanted to go to mig for cleaner welds..

i know i need 2 tanks for oxy/acetylene i would just have to pick up a second tank..

my welder is 220v so its not very portable either,
just wanna know what kind of life im gonna get with a 300cf tank of MIG mix,
if its gonna cost 60$ a week to refill it with the argon then i'd rather stay with flux core and then go with oxy-acetylene

It comes down to what you plan on welding, both have pros and cons. Id use gas sheilding before flux core if your welds matter. I pretty sure you can use co2 also but im not positive its been awhile since ive used a mig.

Where the heck did you find a 300cf empty bottle? Is it NEW, doubt it, what was in it before?

Unless it's been flushed some how, I'd be leary of puttin anythin in it till it was clean................

What kinda mig do you have that's 220v and usin fluxcore?

I've got a Lincoln Weld Pak 100HD, 110v, and I used it with fluxcore, weld splatter was like usin a stick welder...........I've since gone to the bottle and like it much better, cleaner welds, and helluvalot better penetration!

300cf argon mix otta last quite a while, unless you do a sh*tload of weldin!:dunno:

well the airgas shop by my house doesnt fill it i just bring them my tank, and they give me an already filled tank of argon.

i have a clarke mig/flux welder, it like 180 amps i was just running flux core because when i bought it i didnt feel like spending money on the tank/gas/regulator. plus the manual says it can penetrate 1/4" steel in one pass on flux too. i mainly weld stuff like bumpers, cracke frames, but ive also done body panels with it too.

i think what im trying to ask is will a 300cf bottle last for a spool of .035 mig wire?

First off its usually cheaper to just trade the tank for an already filled one than it is to have it filled. Second I dont weld with Argon, I use CO2 welds hotter and my small tank will last me months

well does the bottle have a steel band or name stamped into the bottle near the neck. If it does well then when you do take it in to get filled up they are gona take it from you and not give it back. They will does this since it a company bottle not an owners bottle meaning it may have gotten stollen at some point from a welding supply house.

DO you read any of your posts before you hit the reply button? What a mess, I would take it English is not your first language :icon_twisted:
