ok, i used the tire size converter provided on here in the tech library, and i got an idea of my tire size... it came up with
section width: 9.3 inches
section height: 7 inches
so lets say i was looking at new tires that are 31 or 32 inches tall and have inch measurements on them... what size would i look for? my rims are 15 inch... thanks

Just buy LT's. P-metric tire sizes are retarded.

You probably want something like 265/70/15s. Just plug numbers into the converter calculator until you get a size you like.

ok, what would be the width in inches of my rim? if you know...

None of the numbers reflect the width of the rim. The last number is the diameter in both systems. Diameter is distance across the face, width is the distance across the rim from the points where the tire beads meet the metal wheel.

EDIT: I think I misunderstood the question. Generally RBV rims are 7.5" width. There is a wheel size chart in the library that has all the dimensions with pictures of the different styles.

if ive got this right... the 75 r15 is the part i need to pay attention to in order to keep the rims i have... ???

I P-meteric tires there is no number that really reflects the width of the rim.

"235" is the section width of the tire in milimeters measured at the widest point - not the tread width.

"70" is the aspect ratio or height of the tire measured from the base of the bead to the top of the tread represented as a percentage of the section width, or 70% of 235mm.

"R" means radial construction.

"15" is the wheel diameter in inches.

that is an absolutely asinine system... well... i was looking around online, and i found that 31x10.5 r15 would fit my current rims...

Yes it is and yes they will.
