So i was working on my brother 97 ranger yesterday... had to replace the rear leave brackets just like i replaced the front ones on my truck. Well any how when i was grinding the hell outta the rivets that hold the factory junk brackets sparks are flying and stuff well when i was done i went to wipe the sweat from my face with my shirt and got a piece of metal in my eye......burned and bothered the hell outta me....so i had to go to the eye Dr. an have him stick his needle in my eye and pull it out he said theres still some rust in there but it will come out...NOT FUN

Sorry about your luck. I had welder burn and metal in my eye once. The Dr. was
yelling at me to be more careful. Not just advising but actually yelling. I told him to get bent, afterwords ofcourse.

Wow that sucks, my father had glass in his eyes. He worked at Thatcher glass and was the foreman, one worker failed to show up and he had to run the forklift (he liked that) but when he picked up a pallet of yoo-hoo bottles to load, the strap broke and the top 2 flats fell backwards onto the top of the forklift breaking the bottles, he had a shower of glass that cut him and most went into his right eye, he had his safety gear on as well, but that does not do anything in a situation like that. That was the year it snowed in Florida Nineteen seventy something (I think it was 1974 or 75). After that, Thatcher had a Piece of steel placed on top of the loading dock forklifts approved by OSHA. Those drivers did not have to see overhead like the other drivers, eventually they went with 1/4" Plexiglass.

Hope you feel better soon and nothing bad or terrible comes from this.

i've been to the eye doc twice to get metal shards out of my eyes.if you work with grinders and rotory files etc all day its bound to happen.won't get used to needles and scrapers going into my eye though.i usually use a q-tip to un lodge them when they stick in but sometimes they are rusty and you can't see them.

use eye protection guys.go for a week without being able to see from one eye and you'll fully appreciate what you are born with!even with face shields and glasses you need to be careful.

Where you wearing eye protection? If so then damn, that sucks, and I'm sorry. If not, then consider this lesson learned, and dont do it again, lol.
I got my 'lesson' when welding one day. Layed a bead, fliped up helmet to inspect and chip flux away, huge gob a flux burned me about 1/4 inch below my eye, nice tender spot there. Now I chip with my helmet down and lens up.

I feel naked in the shop without eye protection.

my budie was at work , he is a welder by trade, same thing happend to him, the peace of steel started to rust and he had to get surgery on his eye becuase he dident go in for a couple of days thinkind it just scratched his eye,

Eye protection would not have helped him in this, he wiped his face with his shirt not knowing\thinking that metal shards were on his shirt.

when i was 17 i was working on my car, i thought it was a vaccuum hose but it ended up being a coolant hose, the car was still hot and burning hot antifreeze sprayed in both eyes and burned my face around my eyes, the hospitol taped my eyes open ( taped the burned skin) and had two iv's full of a flush dripping into my eyes for about two hours till the bags were empty, that was the worst experience of my life

I got a piece of copper into my eye last winter at work, and I still see a foggy space in my sight. And I was wearing my normal glasses with some cheapo safety glasses over top. The next day I got a face shield, lol.

yeah your eyeball starts to rust with the metal and then your body attacks it.if your eye dosen't feel better by the next day you need to get in pronto

I'm wondering if one of those miniature super strong exotic magnets they sell would be a good thing to have around when grinding and drilling on Rangers. It might even be strong enough to pull off rust flakes before they get ground into your eye. :black_eye:

Ouch.

I got a small peice in my eye once grinding, with saftey glasses on, Luckily I was able to get it out with a magnet tipped screwdriver!

yeah i was wearing eye protecting and was grinding for about a hour so i can bet it was a metal shard from grinding that was on my shirt that i wiped into my eye. I guess you learn from your mistakes "Never wipe you face or eyes with dirty shirts or rags esp when working with a grinder or dust"
