Mercon V ???

I use the stuff every day, never ever seen a container of Motorcraft Mercon V with synthetic blend on it. Would you like me to mail you a container?

Maybe its a Canadian thing.

Motorcraft Mercon V has always been a synthetic blend, and it's a synthetic blend from all other manufacturers that have been licensed to sell Mercon V.

I hear what you are saying, but obviously you cannot read what I am typing.

Ok its a synthetic blend, but no where on the containers we get at our Canadian dealership does it state anywhere on it that is a synthetic blend. Ok? Get what I am saying now?

Partly I was correct in saying that is not a Synthetic ATF. Not a full synthetic anyway. :icon_thumby:

I've never said it was a full synthetic either!!!:headbang::headbang:

The reason Ford later said to use Mercon V is because Mercon V supercedes regular Mercon. It's redundant to have both fluids when 1 of them will suit every trans. Ford now no longer recognizes regular Mercon, it's an obsolete spec. Even though you can still buy regular Mercon, it is no longer Ford licensed or approved.

IIRC, Newer M5OD's use plastic syncro rings requiring the Mercon V formula for smoother more precise shifts. It's very thin. The older M5OD's used brass syncro rings, requiring the older Mercon/dextron formula.

Merc 5 comes in either "regular" or pay extra for "synthetic " blend.

There are TWO different Merc 5 products available.

Regardless of what actually works better, Ford says to use Mercon V only. As far as they're concerned, regular Mercon doesn't exist anymore.

All Mercon V is either synthetic blend or full synthetic. In order for it to meet Mercon V spec, it pretty much has to be at least synthetic blend. It's not possible to make a convetional fluid meet the Merc V spec. Similarly, Chrysler's ATF+4 spec is a full synthetic and I'm 95% sure GM's Dexron VI is also full syn only.

This certainly seems to be the case (and likely is partly why regular Mercon still exists on store shelves).

FWIW, 2008 is the first year Ranger to actually specify Mercon V for the M5OD transmission. 2007-down all called for Mercon. Automatics specified Mercon V long before that however (1997 IIRC).

Been doing some research on this................

Merc V is usually at the least a synthetic blend, however VALVOLINE MERCON V is a full synthetic. It is the only Ford fully licensed Mercon V full synthetic on the market, THAT I KNOW OF (disclaimer). All the rest are Semi-synthetic. There are a few full syn multi use products out there, such as Mobil 1 ATF and others, but they are not licensed by Ford, even though they say they are recommended for Merc V trannys. Those recommendations come from the oil manufacturer not Ford.

What the hell is a quart??? We only have litres up here. But I can send you 5 emptys if you really want :icon_twisted:
