Hi,

my truck started idling a little rough. No CEL but I did have a pending P0455 code (EVAP leak). I did some looking in the engine bay and found a melted vacuum line. I looked in and around for the other end but am unable to find it. I’ve attached a pic of the culprit if anyone can give me some assistance. Truck is an 03 B2300.

The melted vacuum line is touching my pointer finger. The other end loops around and connects to another vacuum line just above my finger.

Granted I'm not very familiar with newer rangers, but that connection doesn't look factory to me. Hopefully someone more familiar will come along soon.

A few more pictures may help someone identify it. Something to help show where this is in the engine bay. I assume the vacuum hose routing sticker is missing from your radiator core support?

Thanks! The sticker is still there, just doesn’t seem too helpful for this particular line. Attached is a pic from the front of the truck. For clarification, this line is on the drivers side about mid-way back. Also attached is a pic of the sticker…

I would recommend following each line on that diagram from its source (manifold) to its destination. Somewhere, you will find a device with the other end of that melted line.

Pretty sure it’s from the evap canister (bottom of vacuum diagram, thick black line) to the Man Vac (middle of manifold in diagram) on the intake manifold. Trying to find where that is on the manifold

Figured it out! Apparently it was already melted when I got the truck. It goes to another vacuum line that goes to the intake manifold. Now just have to either splice them together or replace the whole thing.

Those pesky diagrams really are helpful. Glad you worked it out. And now you know a little bit more about your engine compartment.

A local parts store should have everything you need to fix that. Also, maybe buy some zip-ties (cable ties) and use them to try to keep your freshly repaired vacuum line away from heat sources like the exhaust manifold and EGR tube.
