ok, i decided it was time for an oil change in my a4ld. took an appointment, the guy (a transmission specialist) call me back and tells me to not change the oil. He told me those trannys would start slipping soon after an oil change. he also told me the new oil would clean the varnish off of everything and then it starts slipping...

what do i do:icon_confused:

Opinions vary... If the transmission is shifting great and not acting up at all? Fluid is all nice and not burnt? Chances are it shouldn't hurt...but I'm not betting money on it.

If the fluid and filter is changed on a regular basis? You'll never hurt it or make anything worse by continuing using a maintenance schedule. If it's not been done in forever? Then yeah, it can be risky.

Hard call...

He said that because unless you know that it has had regular maintenance and not had the same fluid in there for 150k or whatever the case maybe it has the chance to burn up once all that fluid and material is removed. Id just leave it as is and drive it til it blows.

There is very little GOOD basis for not changing the transmission fluid on a trans that has been neglected. 90% of the time it will be fine. The few that do actually blow up shortly after a fluid change were not going to last long anyway.

I personally have done many first transmission services on older transmissions and have yet to have a trans that I serviced fail.

ok, the truck sold today. so i dont have to worry anymore. it has only 60000 miles on it, not burnt or anything, it devellops a small leak, i don't know where it was going, not on the ground for sure. thanks for the replys
