Please. I am at my wits end with this truck. 1995 Mazda b-3000 4x4 manual 5 speed tranny, 3.0 engine. History= Last year I replaced the slave cylinder and master cylinder, and has been fine for at least 14 months.
Yesterday as I was driving past a school in residential area( so I was Going slow). My truck seemed to lurch as I was coming through a dip in the road. As I tried to shift into 2nd gear I got nothing but a sound like my gears were just rubbing each other but had no engagement. The lurch kind of felt like my u-joint went out or dropped a drive shaft, kind of like heavy shifting. The clutch pedal feels normal and it feels like it is shifting correctly but no gears are working. Also when I have the truck in gear motor off I can push the truck and it stutters forward or backwards. I looked in the housing and the slave cylinder looks ok. no leaks. I dont know what to do next. maybe dynamite? Thanks in advance for your thoughts. You have always been a great help in the past.

Possibly by some odd occurrence your transfer case may have slipped between ranges. As I now intimately know and understand the inner workings of the m5od I would suspect that if the trans let go you would have had warning signs up to that point much grinding, growling, and slipping out of gear.

Now before you go and rip off the transfer case there is another distinct possibility. Perhaps the clutch webbing shattered. I have had this happen on 2 different vehicles in the past. When this happens clutch still has hydraulic pressure but the clutch disk itself cracks where the shock springs are and eventually just breaks loose and the engine runs but no power is transmitted to the input shaft.

This image shows a cracked web on the clutch disc. What I am talking about is when all the webs simply break and the hub is independent of the ring. Happens on cheap replacement clutches quite often. That is why you should always use LUK.

If you are not good at diagnosing drive line problems have a mechanic take a look at it. But now at least you are armed with a bit of knowledge.

Yah, what happens if you shift into 4wd?
