max backspacing

I have a 84 ranger with dana35 TTB and 9" lift. Im running 33's and i want the tires to stick out as much as possible for stability but i dont want to be eating wheel bearings left and right. Id like to run 15x10's since my tires are 12.50 wide, but what backspacing would be good? I was thinking maybe somewhere close to 3"? Post pics if you have something useful or if anybody can help me out then reply!

I personally would not run a 33x12.5 on a 15x10 wheel. I think that is pushing the limits.


And for backspacing, I think 3.75" is a good one. That is what I have. Granted you could go more, but agian, I don't see any need to. Those numbers are going to look different if you run a 15x10 wheel (stick out more) as opposed to mine which are 15x8 (also 33x12.5x15's). Mine stick about an inch on my '93, so theoreticly, that would make a 15x10 wheel stick out about 3" ( the outer part of teh wheel in 2" wider). And, if I'm not mistaken, 83-92 Rangers are slightly narrower than newer ones, which would make the tires stick out even further.


Another thing to think about is that most states, to my knowledge, tires cannot stick out past the fender any more than 1". I know there are exceptions, but I think that is what it is here in Washington, but I haven't really heard of anybody getting pulled over for it, unless they stick out alot (5"+) in which case I've known a few.

Nah, we're in Michigan, they're pretty lax as far as automotive laws go. There's open wheel buggy's up and down the roads all the time.

Mudder, Since you've seen my rig in person, I'm running 33x12.50 tires on a 15x10 rim, 4" backspacing - 1" offset.

3.75" or 4" backspacing and a 15x10" rim.don't worry about the offset measurement.thats about as far as you want to go before it gets too unreliable

the 15x10's were one of the best things i've done for stability on my truck and your tire tread will run flatter and last longer.heres an old pic of mine,33x12.5's on 15x10's.the rear has the early narrow spec 8.8 but the front sticks out 3 inches or so per side.
