1988 Ranger 4x4, 2.9L, CANNOT find the rear master cylinder brake line fitting....it is an 18x1.5 fitting and no one has anything even close. I dont even know what it looks like but it reduces all the way down to the standard 3/16" brake line. Project truck and original lines were all scrapped. Appreciate your help!!!

Anyone have any idea if a different master cylinder would work off of a later Ranger/Explorer? As long as it bolts up to the brake booster?

To clarify, you need the fitting for the line that goes to the rear, which goes into the forward port of the master cylinder, correct?

The line nut set that comes with this roll of line has the correct ones:

Also, if you just need that one I have a used one, in good condition, not frozen to the line, and no rounded corners. I've lost a few brake lines on my B2 over this winter and just went nuts and did the whole rear set, but left the front part of the long line in place, Let me know if you are interested, I can cut it off the line and drop it in the mail.

ADSM, I appreciate the reponse.....no, I'm actually looking for the rear fitting, closest to the firewall. I cant believe this is so difficult to find, but people also aren't routinely changing them out.

That one should be a much more common piece. Can you post a picture of your master cylinder?

My catalog spec sheet says that's a 7/16 x 24 thread. That's a pretty common threading, you may still need an adapter to step it to a new pre-made line.

Here's a picture. I even have a 2nd remanufactured one under a different part number for an 88....it has the same large rear port. In auto zones computer it lists it as an 18x1.5....I even tried a 16mmx1.5
25513
NAPA carried and it was too small so I'm thinking the 18mm is correct.

That's the wrong master cylinder for an 88 Ranger/B2.

The ports should face to the other side for one. For another thing, both ports should be machined for a double flaring, which is not what you have there. Either the rearward port was mis-machined, and badly so, or it was done for a bubble flare, which only certain GMs and Japanese cars were using at that time. Also, Ford wasn't using metric thread for line nuts in the 80s. To my knowledge the first Ford to use a bubble flare, or metric line nut threads, was the gen2 Explorer, and both of those ports faced to the driver's side too.

What's your AZ or Napa part number?

This is what it should look like:

So I actually bought both master cylinders from RockAuto.....A1 Cardone 104009 and a Centric 13065006. They give options for "ports face engine" or fender.....and STX model which this truck is. In any case your info is super reassuring...dont care about buying another, just want to move forward!!! Thanks again for all your help!!!!!!!

Just searched advance auto, they also list a wearever master, part number 10-4009, the same as the Cardone I have. <scratching head>.

I think I'll do more searching for a "correct" master cylinder, I dont want to convert 5/16 to 3/16's, that's not what was on there. I think I'll go to napa and order all 3 masters they have listed and return the ones I dont use....one of them, if the picture is accurate, shows 2 smaller ports for double flares, not a large double flare. In any case I'll be sure to let you know, and many thanks for your time!!! Anthony
