Hi All,

I have a 1998 Ranger XLT (4 cylinder). The check engine light is on and the dealership says I need a mass air flow sensor.

The engine 'pings' terribly in hot weather and the engine rpms do not drop fast between shifting gears (manual).

Are these symptoms of a bad mass air flow sensor?

Thank you for your help.

they could be.

do you have reason to doubt the dealership? if so, get a second opinion at a second shop.

Hi Guys,

I appreciate your comments on my MAF sensor. I have always wondered why the engine had such a terrible ping.

Recently the fsst idle between shifting has become quite annoying.

I do not doubt the dealership but I do wonder if the ping and idle will be gone when the MAF is changed......I hope so.

Thanks Again,

Bob
