OK, I've noticed a few links to MA videos and some comments about training so I* thought I'd ask (yes, I have too much time on my hands right now)...

Anybody else trained in 'classic' or otherwise 'art' of self defence?

I taught Tae Kwon Do for nearly twenty years and also trained in Tai Chi Chuan (Yang Style)...the actual deadly form of it, not the old timers stuff...

And, yes, I do believe in "chi" and Dim Mak...just never got the whole thing down where I could kill people by tossing a "cheese ball" at them...LOL!

i took karate as a kid, my instructors big claim to fame was that his sensi met chuck norris one time! i would glote too!!!! i won a six foot trophy when i was about 10, my sensei took it and said i couldnt have it until i signed up for another year!!! what an ahole! put a bad taste in my mouth, and i never went back!

I took vadha kempo for a few years. The classes were great. I was in the best shape of my life. I was looking to possibly get into another class at some point.

Unless you're not telling us another part of the story, that was damned mean of him to do to a kid that accomplished something.

nope, they just wanted the money, three months later, they closed down!

Fortunately not all Dojos are like that. I studied Shorin-ryu Shorinkan for several years. My Sensei taught more than just the art. He taught the tradition behind it and placed alot of emphasis on it. It was definatly a very good experience.

My son is in TKD now. He's 5 and has already gone through the "kiddie" preliminary belts and is now a solid yellow belt. It has done wonders for him. Respect is a very big part of his Dojo environment. I was also surprised at just how hard he can kick and punch now. He's the smallest kid in his class and he was bullied on his first day. We enrolled him almost immediately following that episode. His self confidence has grown quite a lot. Now when someone gets in his face and bullies him he gives them 2 warnings and if they continue... well he lets them have it. I know that's not the intent of MA but he is looking after his own battles and he's probably the most confident 5 year old you're gonna meet.

During college I started Shotokan Karate. Later while doing that I also studied Judo before moving. I enjoyed it so much I did it for almost five years. Today, I have been doing amateur boxing for three years (12 fights).
